Sooners Defeat RMU in Non-Conference Play

Three Colonials finished in double-figures, led by Amalia and Gedeon

Norman, Okla. – The Robert Morris women's basketball team concluded its four-game road slate by dropping a 94-65 decision at No. 23 Oklahoma in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Lloyd Noble Center. With the loss, the Colonials fall to 6-4 overall during the 2022-23 campaign. Meanwhile, the Sooners improve to 8-1 overall this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore forward Phoenix Gedeon opened the contest connecting on her first two jumpers to give the Colonials a 4-3 lead. Oklahoma would score nine straight points to open up their lead, 12-4. Gedeon ended the scoring drought by converting one-of-two free throws before freshman Natalie Johnson connected on a triple to cut into the deficit. The Sooners ended the first the quarter on a 14-5 run to take a 33-13 lead. Oklahoma opened the second quarter by scoring the first six points before Gedeon knocked down another jumper with 6:56 to play in the half. After a Sooners jumper, junior Mackenzie Amalia knocked down a triple and connected on a jumper the very next possession, trimming the Oklahoma lead. The Sooners scored seven of the next 10 points to end the half and hold a 60-28 advantage.

In the second half, sophomore guard Rebecca Dwomoh opened the quarter with a three-pointer as Gedeon followed with a foul line jumper. The two squads went over two minutes without a basket before Oklahoma went on an 8-2 run to extend its lead, 76-35. The Colonials responded by scoring six of the next eight points, led by Johnson and freshman guard Candela Rabadan Solis. RMU opened the fourth quarter by scoring nine consecutive points, six of them coming off back-to-back triples from Amalia. Oklahoma responded with eight straight points before Dwomoh ended the drought with a three-pointer. Later in the quarter, Gedeon and Amalia paced the Colonials to a 7-2 run to trim the Sooner lead.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Three Colonials were in double-figures, led by Gedeon and Amalia who each had a team-high 15 points. Gedeon finished 6-for-12 from the floor, with five rebounds and a steal in 26 minutes. Amalia connected on four triples, while grabbing a season high five boards and dished out three assists. Dwomoh was the third Colonial in double-digits, finishing with 14 points on 4-of-9 from behind the arc. She recorded three rebounds and collected three assists. Johnson came off the bench and scored a season high eight points with three rebounds, while freshman guard Louella Allana dished out a season best six assists.

TOP OFFENSE
Coming into todays contest, Oklahoma ranked fifth in the country in scoring offense and continued to show why. This is the fifth time this season the Sooners have scored over 90 points as they shot 44.4 percent from the field (32-for-72). The Sooners ranked fifth in the NCAA in assists per game averaging 20.6 as they recorded 20 assists this afternoon. They featured six players scoring in double-figures, led by Liz Scott with 16 points.
