Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU football team announced its 2023 schedule Tuesday, which includes six home games at Joe Walton Stadium as well as five non-conference contests. In addition, 2023 marks the first year of the joint association of the Big South Conference and Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), as the 10 combined teams, which includes six from the OVC and four from the Big South, will play a six-game league slate.
RMU opens its 2023 campaign and 30th season of NCAA Division I football Saturday, Sept. 2, at Air Force. It marks the first meeting between the two programs. The Colonials open the home portion of their 2023 schedule Saturday, Sept. 9, by welcoming Saint Francis to the Joe. Also on the home slate as part of the non-conference action is Lynchburg (Sept. 23) and Howard (Sept. 30).

In addition to opening the season at Air Force, RMU will visit Youngstown State (Sept. 16) as part of its non-conference slate and will also open its conference schedule with a pair of road games. The Colonials travel to Boiling Springs, N.C., to take on defending Big South champion Gardner-Webb Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, to open league play before traveling to Bryant Saturday, Oct. 14.
The first home league game for RMU is set for Saturday, Oct. 28, when the Colonials welcome Tennessee Tech. A trip to Southeast Missouri closes out the road portion of RMU's 2023 conference schedule, while the Colonials close out the year by hosting Charleston Southern (Nov. 11) and Eastern Illinois (Nov. 18) for league tilts.
RMU is led by head coach
Bernard Clark, Jr., who enters his sixth season leading the Colonials in 2023. Last month, Clark was selected to be
inducted into the Orange Bowl Hall of Fame presented by AutoNation. Clark joins Dewey Selmon (Oklahoma) and Grant Wistrom (Nebraska) as part of the Class of 2022.
The Colonials will be bolstered by the return of
Hayden Baron on offense and
Joe Casale on defense. Baron, a native of Perryopolis, Pa., was named to the 2022 Big South All-Academic Team and has started 24 consecutive games for the Colonials. In his first season for RMU at linebacker, Casale, a native of Troy, N.Y., paced the Colonials in tackles with 70 in eight games, an average of 8.75 stops per contest.
