Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU softball team wrapped up play in the North Carolina A&T / Howard Round Robin Sunday with an 8-0 victory in five innings over Howard at the Aggie Softball Complex. The Colonials improve to 4-1 (.800) overall during the 2022 campaign.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
RMU established season highs in runs (8), hits (10) and RBI (8) against the Bison, taking control early with six runs over the first two innings, including four in the first. Morgan Thornton was unable to record an out for Howard in the top of the first as the Colonials tagged her for four runs on two hits and a pair of walks. Freshman
Alaina Koutsogiani opened the contest with a walk and promptly stole second. She came around to score three batters later on an RBI single from sophomore
Charlotte Grover. That would be all for Thornton, who was relieved by Analise De La Roca. Sophomore
Meadow Sacadura greeted her with a two-run single up the middle, and junior
Rachael Rhinehart capped the scoring in the first with a bases-loaded walk that brought home Grover.
JUMP AROUND
In the five games of the North Carolina A&T / Howard Round Robin, the Colonials scored eight runs in the first two innings of their five games, including six in the first inning. Later in games, RMU plated six runs in the seventh inning or later, including five runs in the eighth inning. Overall, the Colonials outscored their opponents, 21-10, in the round robin.
MULTIPLICATION
Rhinehart was efficient at the dish Sunday against the Bison, driving in three runs with a walk, sacrifice fly and a double in the fourth inning that gave RMU a 7-0 lead. Sacadura also drove in three and was one of three Colonials to record a multi-hit effort. She finished 2-for-3, while freshman
Anna Resnik was 2-for-2 with a run and fifth-year outfielder
Alaina York was 2-for-3 with a two runs and an RBI.
SPEED SPEED SPEED
For the second consecutive year the Colonials have gotten off to a good start on the basepaths. RMU finished 8-for-8 in stolen base attempts in the five games of the North Carolina A&T / Howard Round Robin, with Koutsogiani finishing the weekend 4-for-4. York and Ehrman also each went 2-for-2. Since the beginning of the 2021 season, the Colonials have been successful on 88.2 percent (45-for-51) of their attempts in stolen bases.
UP NEXT
RMU travels to South Carolina for the Winthrop Invitational, Feb. 18-20, in Rock Hill, S.C., at Terry Field. The Colonials open the invite Friday with a 10:00 a.m. game against Ball State and will also play Albany at 12:30 p.m.
