Moon Township, Pa. – Sophomore
Charlotte Grover of the RMU softball team earned the first weekly honor of her career Tuesday, as she was named the Horizon League Player of the Week.
In helping the Colonials post a perfect 5-0 record at the Winthrop Invitational last weekend in Rock Hill, S.C., that stretched RMU's overall winning streak to six, Grover hit .357 (5-for-14) with four runs, a home run and a pair of RBI.
Grover, a native of Woodinville, Wash., finished 1-for-3 with a pair of runs in the opener of the Winthrop Invitational, an 8-5 win over Ball State (2/18). The next morning in an 8-0 win over Towson in five innings, Grover notched her second multi-hit effort of the young 2022 season, finishing 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
In a 2-1 triumph over the host Eagles that helped keep the Colonials perfect as part of the invitational, Grover led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run to center to tie the game, 1-1. RMU would scored another run in the frame and complete the victory.
Overall during the 2022 campaign, Grover, a member of the 2021 #HLSB All-Freshman Team, is hitting .267 (8-for-30) with six runs, a double, home run and five RBI. She has also walked five times.
Led by fourth-year head coach
Jexx Varner, RMU is off to its best start in program history with a record of 9-1 (.900). The program's previous best start through 10 games was 6-4 (.600), which the Colonials accomplished five times (1993, 1994, 2001, 2005), the last of which came in 2012. That season RMU posted an overall record of 35-22 (.614), setting a school record for victories.
The Colonials return to action Friday, March 4, with a doubleheader at Portland State, the beginning of an eight-game trek through the Pacific Northwest. The Colonials will complete a three-game series with the Vikings Saturday, March 5, and will also travel to Oregon (3/7), Washington (3/8) and Seattle (3/9).
