INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Robert Morris women's basketball team lost its regular season finale Saturday, falling to hosts IUPUI 73-40 at The Jungle. The Colonials finish the 2021-22 regular season at 13-14 overall and 11-11 in Horizon League play.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Panthers kicked off action Saturday on a 14-4 run, putting the Colonials behind the eight ball as RMU's shooters struggled to find their touch, going just 3-15 from the field in the opening ten minutes of action. Five straight points from Rachel McLimore followed by a deep three from Destiny Perkins made it a 12-4 IUPUI lead before a Macee Williams drive to the hole made it a ten point game at 14-4. The Jags shot 50% from the field and from three in the opening quarter of play before out-scoring RMU 21-5 in the second to take a commanding 38-11 lead into the locker rooms.
VILLAFLOR LEADS THE WAY
Senior Natalie Villaflor earned her second career start in the final regular season game of her Colonials career Saturday, making the most of the opportunity to lead the Colonials with nine points on 57.1% shooting. For the senior, it came on the back of another career day following her performance earlier this week that saw her set new season highs in points, field goals, free-throws, rebounds and blocks.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Despite trailing 59-18 entering the final frame of action, the Colonials finally found their footing over the final ten minutes of action, out-scoring the Jaguars 22-14 in the fourth quarter. A Jazmyne DeShields three-pointer kicked off a 22-10 run over the final 9:17 of action that saw Mackenzie Amalia lead the way with eight points. The Colonials shot 9-17 from the floor including 3-4 from beyond the arc while casting five Jags turnovers.
