Blue Devils Hold Off RMU in Season Opener

Taggart Clark and Corson Kealey score hat tricks in loss to Duke.

Durham, N.C. – The Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team fell 21-12 to the No. 3 ranked Duke Blue Devils on Friday, February 4th, from Koskinen Stadium. RMU falls to 0-1 with the defeat, while Duke moves to 1-0.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Duke came out strong with offensive pressure early in the game, posting 10 goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. However, the Colonials pulled themselves out of the 10-1 trench with two goals in 21 seconds, courtesy of Taggart Clark and Dan Taddeo.

Despite a four-goal performance by Clark and an additional hat trick from Corson Kealey, the Blue Devils always managed to keep RMU at arm's length, resulting in a final 21-12 victory for Duke.

GOALIE VARIETY
Senior Liam Rosenthal got the nod for the Colonials in goal for the season opener, making nine saves. Freshman Nate Randall also saw action in the fourth quarter, making four stops and allowing only one goal.

CLARK CONTROLS THE OFFENSE
Taggart Clark's four-goal game serves as a career-high for the senior, marking his second career hat trick with RMU. In addition to his goals, the senior registers an assist and led the team with 5 points, 11 shots, and 8 SOG. On the defensive end, Clark grabbed two ground balls.

CORSON KEALEY IS GOOD AT LACROSSE
Graduate student Corson Kealey demonstrated why his return to RMU is crucial to the Colonial offense, tallying his 15th career hat trick for the Robert Morris. Kealey added an assist to his night to end with four points.

LIGHT THE LAMP
Six different players had a goal for RMU against Duke. In addition to Clark and Kealey, Jake Boudreau, Dan Taddeo, Will Johanssen, and James Leary all scored.

NEXT UP
Robert Morris will open their 2022 home slate on Saturday, February 12, as they host the Bucknell Bison at Joe Walton Stadium at 1 p.m.
