KENT, Oh. - The Robert Morris women's lacrosse team took down Kent State Wednesday afternoon at Dix Stadium, earning a 11-8 win against the Golden Flash. The win moves RMU to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in MAC play.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
After falling in an early 2-0 hole, the Colonials mounted a dramatic comeback, going on a 7-0 run to take control of the momentum Wednesday afternoon. After the Flash buried a man-up goal to make it 2-0 less than four minutes in, Jenna Irwin buried her team-leading tenth of the year off a free-position to cut it down to a 2-1 deficit before another FP tally from Jerrica Obee tied it up with 9:21 to play. Kelsey Nelson would add a pair to go along with Colleen Tifft's third of the year to make it 5-2 Colonials after one quarter. Though the Golden Flash ended the second with a surge of their own, the Colonials still remained in control at 7-4 after the first 20 minutes of action.
MAC ATTACK
With their victory Wednesday against the Flash, the Colonials extended their conference win streak to 12 straight games, and now sit at a perfect 12-0 against conference opponents since joining the MAC during its inaugural season in 2021. The Colonials also extended their overall record against the Golden Flash to 5-0, including a 3-0 mark on the road in Kent.
FREE SPIRIT
Four of the Colonials 11 goals on the evening came via free position, bringing RMU's season total up to fifteen. Jenna Irwin picked up her fifth and sixth FP goals of the year to extend her overall goal streak to four games as she now leads RMU in both total and FP goals. Of RMU's 50 total goals this season, 30% (15-50) have come via free-position.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Kent State battled back in the second half, outscoring RMU 2-1 in the third quarter and at one point cutting the Colonial lead down to just a goal at 7-6. A huge tally from Julia Koterwas with just seven seconds left in the third gave RMU some much needed breathing room before freshman Chelsea Coleman buried her second career goal just minutes after getting her first. Jordan Anderson soon pushed things to 10-6 Colonials with 12 minutes to play in regulation as RMU held on for the 11-8 victory.
NEXT UP
The Colonials remain on this week when they make a swing through Lynchburg, Virginia for a showdown with the Liberty Flames on Saturday, March 5 at 1:00 p.m.
