RMU Falls in Horizon League Quarterfinals

Colonials fall, 72-41, at top-seeded IUPUI

The Robert Morris University women's basketball team was outscored in the second and third quarters by a 33-14 margin, ultimately falling to top-seeded IUPUI, 72-41, this evening in the Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals. RMU ends its season at 14-15 (11-11 HL).
 
HOT START
The Colonials opened the game on the right foot, shooting at 55.6% through the first seven minutes of the game and keeping up with the fast-paced Jaguars throughout the first quarter.

Despite trailing by only a 15-14 margin heading into the second quarter, the Jags limited RMU to only seven points before the half.

THE OPPONENT
IUPUI had one of their best defensive performances of the season, holding the RMU offense to only seven points in both the second and third quarters. Four-year Horizon League POY Macee Williams posted a double-double on the night with 25 points and 12 rebounds.

END OF AN ERA
The loss to IUPUI marks the final game in the Red and Blue for Esther Castedo, Natalie Villaflor, and Nina Augustin, who all tallied points in the loss.

SEASON LEADERS
Castedo closes out the season as the team's leading scorer, posting 291 points in the 2021-22 season. With her six rebounds in tonight's game, Sol Castro claims the spot as the team's top rebounder with 152 on the season.

NEW BEGINNINGS
Freshmen Simone Morris, Alejandra Mastral, Danielle Vuletich, Jeneira Scott and Phoenix Gideon all contributed the RMU score tonight, tallying 15 points among them. As of now, the Colonials will have nine players returning for the 2022-23 season.
