Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU track & field team continued its 2022 outdoor season Saturday, competing in Fairfax, Va., at the George Mason Invitational.
COFFEE TALK
Fifth-year
Yessie Valencia earned her third individual title of the 2022 outdoor season in the discus at George Mason, firing off a throw of 47.02 meters (154'3") to claim gold. Sada Wright of West Virginia took home second in the event at 44.54 meters, while fellow fifth-year
Estelle Katende finished with bronze thanks to a distance of 42.37 meters (139'0"). Valencia and Katende sit first and third, respectively, among Horizon League leaders in the event.

Elsewhere in the throws, Katende finished second in the shot put with a mark of 13.89 meters (45'7"), a season best. The distance vaults her into third place among Horizon League leaders. In the same event, junior
Alijah Caul posted her best mark of the season, as well, unleashing a distance of 11.77 meters (38'7.50"). In the hammer, fifth-year
Keturah Hunter garnered bronze, unleashing a toss of 53.23 meters (174'7"), while Valencia finished fifth at 48.52 meters (159'2").

Freshman
Maddie Raymond finished fourth for the Colonials in the 100-meter dash at the George Mason Invitational, clocking in at 12.32 seconds. Fellow rookie
Hannah McDanel also notched a personal best in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 25.71 seconds. Junior
Elicia Moore also cracked the top five in the Horizon League in the 400-meter dash thanks to her performance Saturday, recording a time of 58.18 seconds.

Lauren Chappell and freshman
Bethany Naughton clocked in seconds apart for RMU in the 100-meter hurdles at George Mason, with Chappell notching a time of 15.88 seconds, while Naughton finished at 16.06.
UP NEXT
The Colonials head to Lewisburg, Pa., to take part in the Bison Outdoor Classic Saturday, April 16, and Sunday, April 17, on the campus of Bucknell University.
