RMU Faces Air Force in ASUN Semifinal Competition

#2 Robert Morris will face #3 Air Force for their first ASUN Tournament

HUNTSVILLE, AL.  The Robert Morris men's lacrosse team gets set to face the Air Force Falcons in the 2022 ASUN Championships semifinal round on May 5th at Milton Frank Stadium in Huntsville, Alabama.

The semifinal matchup will mark the seventh time RMU has met the AFA. This will mark the second meeting between the two teams this season, with Robert Morris coming out on top two weeks ago by a final score of 11-10.

On the senior day game, the Colonials executed a comeback to tie the game a 10 apiece. RMU's leading scorer, Taggart Clark, took advantage of a man-up opportunity and scored with just over two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to propel the Colonials to victory.

Scouting the Falcons
Bill Wilson is in his fifth season with Air Force, where he has put together a 31-33 record with the program. The Falcons closed the 2022 regular season with a 9-7 win over Bellarmine.
 
Brandon Dodd leads the Falcons in points with 64, as well as 44 goals, on the season. Goalkeeper Jason Rose has played 754:05 minutes in net for Air Force this season with a 10.81 GAA and a .541 SV%.
 
Air Force finished the regular season with an 8-6 record, going 3-2 in their inaugural season with the ASUN conference.
 
Keal-ing It
Corson Kealey ends the regular season with an impressive 22-game scoring streak, dating back to the beginning of the 2021 season. In conference play alone, Kealey has put up 13 goals, seven assists and 20 points. The graduate student scored his seventh hat trick of the season and dished out three assists against Cleveland State.

Nationally Ranked
Going into Saturday's meeting, the Colonials are scoring 13.23 goals per game. Taggart Clark sits among the top 10 players in the country when it comes to goals scored per game. Clark, who is averaging 3.31 goals per game is 9thin all of NCAA Division I men's lacrosse. Corson Kealey now sitting in 25th place in the NCAA in goals per game, averaging 2.92 goals per game. Sophomore Bo Columbus ranks 49th in the nation in ground balls per game with 4.77. Additionally, the transfer ranks 17th in the nation in face-off win percentage, getting the ball 56.4% on the time on the draw.

The RMU scoring offense ranks 27th in the country. The Colonials also scored the most goals of any ASUN team this season in both overall (172) and conference (62) play.

Don't Look Directly into the (A)SUN
Bo Columbus ranks second in the ASUN in groundballs (63) and leads in face-off wins (168). Corson Kealey ranks second in points (54) and third in goals (38). Taggart Clark finished in second place for scoring (43) and third place for total points (53).

Dan Taddeo holds the second-place spot for season assists with 25. Meanwhile Jake Boudreau ranks 6th in the conference with 18 helpers in 2022. The Colonials are second in the ASUN when in both scoring offense and goals per game.

Unsung Heroes
The RMU defense has been the definition of resilient this season. The Colonials have allowed just 153 goals to get by them this season. In 2022, RMU faced three teams with a Top-25 scoring offense in Duke (8th), Bucknell (10th) and High Point (19th).

James Leary, Owen Down, and Evan Hellmich are all ranked nationally in CTO per game. Leary leads the pack in 12th place, while Down and Hellmich are tied for 47th.

Weekly Honors
With the Colonials 19-12 win over Cleveland State last Saturday, Robert Morris was able to sweep the ASUN weekly awards. Senior attack, Taggart Clark, and freshman goalkeeper, Nate Randall, earned Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.

Clark, a native of Stouffville, Ontario native had a career-high day in the Colonials 19-12 win over Cleveland State on Saturday. The senior posted eight points in the contest, coming in the form of six goals and two assists. All three of these category numbers serve as career-highs for the attack. Clark has scored in every game of the 2022 season and has posted 3+ goals in nine of the contests.

Randall, the freshman goalkeeper from Beverly Hills, Mich., has been part of a dynamic goalkeeping duo for the majority of the season and throughout all of regular season competition. In 30 minutes of play against Cleveland State, Randall tallied 11 saves to earn his fifth win of the season and second win of conference play.

This is the second time in 2022 that RMU swept weekly awards and the second consecutive week that an RMU player earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Seven Colonials have earned ASUN honors in the 2022 season.

ASUN
2022 will serve as the inaugural year for the Colonials in the ASUN Conference. The 2022 ASUN Championships will serve as the first men's lacrosse tournament that the ASUN has seen since 2014. RMU previously competed in the NEC, where they saw success in the form of three conference championships and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. After playing unattached in 2021, the Colonials joined the ASUN. RMU was chosen to finish third in the preseason polls with Corson Kealey being named the 2022 ASUN Preseason Player of the Year, Jake Boudreau being selected as the 2022 ASUN Preseason Midfielder of the Year, and both earning a spot on the 2022 ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team, along with senior Owen Down on defense.
