RMU Makes Run at ASUN Crown

#2 RMU will meet top-seeded Utah in ASUN Championship game.

Huntsville, Al. -  The Robert Morris men's lacrosse team will face the Utah Utes in the 2022 ASUN Championships final game on May 7th at Milton Frank Stadium in Huntsville, Alabama.

The championship matchup will mark the third time that RMU has met Utah and the first game between the two outside of Salt Lake City. This will mark the second meeting between the two teams this season, with Robert Morris falling three weeks ago by a final score of 18-8.

Scouting the Utes
Andrew McMinn is in his first season with Utah, where he has put together a 10-3 record with the program.

Sophomore Tyler Bradbury leads the Utes in points with 55 on the season. Goalkeeper Zion Dechesere has played 678:59 minutes in net for Utah this season with a 10.16 GAA and a .496 SV%.  Utah finished the regular season with an 10-3 record, going 5-0 in their inaugural season with the ASUN conference.
 
Still Keal-ing It
Corson Kealey ended his impressive scoring streak at 22 games, which dated back to the beginning of the 2021 season. This was the 9th longest goal streak in the NCAA. In conference play alone, the graduate student has tallied 13 goals and 20 points. Kealey now ranks 37th in the nation in points per game.

Nationally Ranked
Going into Saturday's meeting, the Colonials are scoring 12.92 goals per game. Taggart Clark sits among the top 15 players in the country when it comes to goals scored per game. Clark, who is averaging 3.07 goals per game is tied for 15th in all of NCAA Division I men's lacrosse.

Corson Kealey now tied for 37th in the NCAA in goals per game, averaging 2.71 goals per game.

Sophomore Bo Columbus ranks 56th in the nation in ground balls per game with 4.43. Additionally, the DII-transfer ranks 20th in the nation in face-off win percentage, getting the ball 55.9% on the time on the draw.

The RMU scoring offense ranks 28th in the country. The Colonials also scored the most goals of any ASUN team this season in both overall (172) and conference (62) play during the regular season.

Bo Columbus ranked second in the ASUN in groundballs (63) and leads in face-off wins (168) this regular season.

Corson Kealey ranked second in points (54) and third in goals (38). Taggart Clark finished in second place for scoring (43) and third place for total points (53). Dan Taddeo holds the second-place spot for season assists with 25. Meanwhile Jake Boudreau ranks 6th in the conference with 18 helpers in 2022.

Unsung Heroes

The Colonials have allowed just 181 goals to get by them this season. In 2022, RMU faced three teams with a Top-25 scoring offense in Duke (8th), Bucknell (10th) and High Point (19th).

James Leary, Owen Down, and Evan Hellmich are all ranked nationally in CTO per game. Leary leads the pack in 11th place, while Down and Hellmich are tied for 47th.

The Colonials rank 4th in the nation in man-down defense, 14th in clearing percentage and 11th in the nation in CTO per game in the nation in CTO per game.

Weekly Honors
With the Colonials 19-12 win over Cleveland State last Saturday, Robert Morris was able to sweep the ASUN weekly awards. Senior attack, Taggart Clark, and freshman goalkeeper, Nate Randall, earned Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.

Clark, a native of Stouffville, Ontario native had a career-high day in the Colonials 19-12 win over Cleveland State on Saturday. The senior posted eight points in the contest, coming in the form of six goals and two assists. All three of these category numbers serve as career-highs for the attack. Clark has scored in every game of the 2022 season and has posted 3+ goals in nine of the contests.

Randall, the freshman goalkeeper from Beverly Hills, Mich., has been part of a dynamic goalkeeping duo for the majority of the season and throughout all of regular season competition. In 30 minutes of play against Cleveland State, Randall tallied 11 saves to earn his fifth win of the season and second win of conference play.

This is the second time in 2022 that RMU swept weekly awards and the second consecutive week that an RMU player earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Seven Colonials have earned ASUN honors in the 2022 season.
