Erika Bell of the RMU softball team was named to the 2022 Horizon League All-Academic Team Friday, it was announced by the league.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have participated in 50 percent of the team's overall games, completed one year at a member institution and own a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale. The 2022 #HLSB All-Academic Team is selected by Horizon League Faculty Athletics Representatives. Bell, a native of Canal Fulton, Ohio, has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.77 as an accounting major.
Heading into a three-game series with Youngstown State this weekend that concludes the regular season for the Colonials, Bell has fashioned a slash line of .303/.388/.508 to go along with 11 runs, 10 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 28 RBI. She is tied for second in #HLSB in triples and RBI, is tied for fourth in doubles and also ranks seventh in on-base percentage + slugging (OPS) at .896.
During the 2022 season, Bell put together a streak of 22 consecutive games safely reaching base, the longest by an RMU student-athlete since 2011. She is hitting .308 (12-for-39) with runners in scoring position and also has safely hit in nine of her 12 at bats (.750) with a runner on third and less than two outs. Bell leads the Colonials with nine multi-RBI games and also ranks second for RMU in multi-hit efforts (9), including a team-high four games in which she's collected at least three hits.
In 146 career games at RMU, including 134 starts, Bell owns a career batting average of .283 (113-for-400) with 43 runs, 22 doubles, eight home runs and 66 RBI. She is tied for 10th in program history in walks (46) and ranks just outside the top 10 for career doubles.

Jexx Varner, RMU will take on Youngstown State in a three-game series at the Covelli Sports Complex in Youngstown, Ohio, to conclude its 2022 regular season. The Colonials own an overall record of 27-16 (.628), including a 16-6 (.727) mark in the Horizon League that has RMU tied atop the league standings with Oakland in a chase for the 2022 #HLSB regular-season crown and No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2022 Horizon League Tournament.
