RMU Finishes Fifth at #HLTF Outdoor Championships

Hunter successfully defends crown in hammer throw in final day of competition

Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU track & field team concluded the 2022 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships Sunday at the Elaine Lehigh Track & Field Complex in Rochester, Mich., on the campus of Oakland University. The Colonials finished fifth out of 11 teams with 58 points.
 
TEAM CHAMPION
Youngstown State earned its eighth consecutive outdoor crown Sunday, scoring 252 points to win the team title. Oakland finished second with 145 points, with Milwaukee (140), Purdue Fort Wayne (64) and RMU rounding out the top five. Finishing sixth was Northern Kentucky (48), and rounding out the field was Detroit Mercy (40), UIC (29), IUPUI (23), Wright State (18) and Cleveland State (2).
 
DEFENDING THE TITLE
Fifth-year Keturah Hunter successfully defended her 2021 outdoor crown in the hammer throw Sunday, earning gold with a distance of 54.58 meters (179'1"). She unleashed the toss on her sixth and final throw of the event, outlasting fellow fifth-year Yessie Valencia, who finished second at 53.31 meters (174'11"). Like Hunter, Valencia posted her best throw of the competition on her sixth and final attempt.
  
TRIP TRIP TRIPLE
In the triple jump Sunday, freshman Rayna Todero capped a successful first year of NCAA Division I competition by earning fifth thanks to a leap of 11.45 meters (37'6.75"). In the same event, rookie Alex Pearson recorded a mark of 10.50 meters (34'5.50").
 
RELAY RACES
A pair of RMU relay squads scored for the Colonials on the final day of competition at the 2022 #HLTF Outdoor Championships, with the 4x100-meter placing fifth and 4x400-meter finishing seventh. The 4x100-meter relay squad consisted of senior Tara Gologram, junior Elicia Moore and freshmen Hannah McDanel and Maddie Raymond and clocked in at 47.25 seconds. McDanel also ran the opening leg of RMU's 4x400-meter relay that posted a time of 4:02.02, and she was joined by junior Lauren Chappell, fifth-year Brooke Oldfin and sophomore Rio Strosnider.
 
MOORE SPRINTS
In addition to her contributions to the 4x100-meter relay, Moore finished sixth in the finals of the 400-meter dash Sunday, crossing the finish line with a time of 57.92 seconds.
