Moon Township, Pa. – Former RMU women's basketball guard
Esther Castedo (2018-22) has signed a professional contract with her hometown team,
Ensino Lugo, in the Spanish First Division (SFD).
Castedo appeared in 106 career games for the Colonials, including 49 starts. She was a member of the starting lineup for each her 27 games during the 2021-22 campaign, where she averaged 10.8 points per game, including a career-high 23 points against Detroit Mercy (11/18/21). Castedo, a native of Lugo, Spain, compiled career averages of 7.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals during her four-year career with the Colonials.

Charlie Buscaglia said. "Signing a professional contract to play back in her home country is yet another amazing accomplishment to add to Esther's journey. We're looking forward to rooting on Esther throughout her upcoming pro career."
Along with multiple academic accolades from both the Horizon League and the Northeast Conference (NEC),
Castedo was named to the Horizon League All-League Third Team after her standout senior season in 2021-22. She ranked fifth in the Horizon League in her final year in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.16), sixth in assists (2.93 per game) and eighth in steals (1.74).
Castedo is the 23rd former student-athlete under
Buscaglia to play professionally and joins former teammate
Nneka Ezeigbo (2016-20) in Spain, who has played the last two seasons in the LF2 League. Castedo is also the first player from the RMU women's basketball program to sign a professional contract since
Ezeigbo signed with
Unicaja Malaga in 2020.
