Moon Township, Pa. – RMU head coach Jexx Varner announced Monday that Courtney Poulich has joined the program after transferring from Liberty University.

"To say we're excited about adding Courtney to our program would be an understatement," Varner said. "One of our goals has always been to keep the best talent in Western Pennsylvania home playing championship softball, and we're ecstatic to bring her back home to continue our championship climb."

Poulich, a native of Greensburg, Pa., appeared in 19 games for the Flames as a rookie in 2022, scoring five runs. During her prep career at Mount Pleasant, Poulich was a key contributor as a senior in 2021 in helping the Vikings claim both the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) and Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) AAA state championship. That season she produced a .526 batting average to go along with 10 home runs and 26 RBI. For her efforts, Poulich was a 2021 Premier Girls Fastpitch (PGF) All-American finalist.

"Courtney is a great young woman with a wonderful family and will fit in perfectly with the culture of our program," Varner said. "In the classroom, in the weight room and off the field she already exhibits our values. Her athleticism will help us at both first base and in the outfield, and her abilities as a hitter bring a big-time bat and run producer to our lineup from the start."

As a freshman at Mount Pleasant in 2018, Poulich hit .485 and posted an on-base percentage of .685 while driving in 28 runs. She played travel ball for Team Pennsylvania and her sister, Chloe, played collegiately at Towson.

Led by Varner, the Colonials finished with an overall record of 31-21 (.596) last season, including a mark of 16-9 (.640) in the Horizon League, and advanced to the championship game of the 2022 #HLSB Tournament. It marked the first 30-win season for RMU since 2013.
