Opening Tip
- The Robert Morris women's basketball team begins a three-game away trip starting at Oakland (1/5). The Colonials will then head to Detroit Mercy (1/7) and finally Youngstown State (1/12) before returning home in the middle of the month.
- During the holiday season, RMU dropped two games at home vs. Purdue Fort Wayne, 52-41 (12/29) and against Cleveland State, 70-52 (12/31).
- RMU gathered a 12-0 lead to begin the game vs. Cleveland State. It was the largest lead Cleveland State has allowed all season since their first and only loss of the season at No. 8 Iowa State (11/7/22).

Simone Morris put up a career high on New Year's Eve with 15 points including nine rebounds, making her one shy of a double-double.

Phoenix Gedeon was two rebounds shy of her fifth double-double of the season, as she produced 14 points against the Vikings.

Mackenzie Amalia led the team in minutes played with 37, and added four assists.

The All-Time Series (Oakland) – In team history, the Colonials are 1-3 all-time against the Golden Grizzlies since February of 2021. The teams have only met since then in Horizon League play. RMU lost 83-71 and then 84-77 in the 2020-21 season to Oakland. Last season, at Oakland the Colonials lost 65-60 but in January of 2022, won 73-65 to secure their first win against the Golden Grizzlies. In her past three games against Oakland, Amalia has registered 25 points.
Alejandra Mastral picked up 11 points in their last game hosting Oakland, which is her second highest point production for RMU.

Scouting the Golden Grizzlies – Oakland currently sits with a 1-3 conference record just as Robert Morris does. Oakland has an overall record of 6-7. The Golden Grizzlies have started a different lineup most games as eight different players have started for them. Coached by Jeff Tungate in his ninth season behind the bench, the team started with a three-game win streak to begin December, but finished with three straight losses. Their last two games were against conference opponents as they lost on the road at Green Bay, 64-42, and at Milwaukee, 65-49. Alexis Johnson is currently the leading scorer for the Golden Grizzlies averaging 10.5 points a night. She's played in all 13 games and started in eight. Breanne Beatty has played the most time on the court, averaging 34.7 minutes per game. She's averaged 9.5 points a game. Brooke Daniels has collected the most assists on the squad with 31 and is averaging 8.8 points per game. Cam Grant, playing at the center position, has the most blocks with 10.

National Defense – Led by head coach
Charlie Buscaglia, the Colonials have emphasized playing good defense this season. The team currently ranks second in the country in three-point percentage defense (22.6). The Colonials have made it hard for opposing teams to earn possession as they're ranked 40
th in turnovers forced per game (20.4). Overall, with only allowing 56.8 points per game, RMU is 44
th in the nation in scoring defense.

Across The Horizon – Gedeon is eighth in scoring, averaging 13.2 points per game in the Horizon League. She's also fourth in rebounds, averaging eight caroms a game. Her 19 rebounds at Wright State (12/2) is second most in the conference in one game. Amalia is ranked sixth in assists per game, dishing out three per game on average. The junior point guard and sophomore
Alejandra Mastral are third in steals in the conference, averaging 1.5 per game. Amalia's six steals in a win vs. Canisius (11/26) are the most in a game throughout the conference this year.

Double-Double Machine – Sophomore forward
Phoenix Gedeon has recorded four double-double's so far this season. She did so against Waynesburg (11/12), Wright State (12/2), St. Bonaventure (12/16) and vs. Purdue Fort Wayne (12/29). She's also been one or two rebounds away from a double-double on three other occasions. Her dominating presence in the paint has led to her being fouled more than any other Colonial. She's been to the free-throw line the most, making 46-of-66 free throws in 13 games.
