Green Bay, Wis. – The Robert Morris men's soccer team continued its three-game road trip on Saturday afternoon, playing to a 1-1 draw at Green Bay in Horizon League action at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
The Colonials sit at 4-3-5 overall this season behind a 2-2-2 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, the Phoenix are now 4-3-5 overall with a 2-2-2 record in league action.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
It was a cold and windy afternoon in Green Bay but that didn't slow down the hot start for RMU. It took just 60 seconds for the Colonials to get on the board as
John Paul Mbuthia found the bottom right corner of the net to give RMU a 1-0 lead. After a foul on the Phoenix,
William Dodzi Afawubo put a free kick into the box that found the foot of Paul Mbuthia, who beat the keeper to the right.
After back-to-back corner kicks for Green Bay, Andrew Paolucci put a shot off the woodwork before Rohin Kapila was able to put a header across the goal line and even the match in the 12
th minute, 1-1. The Phoenix continued to force the pressure over the next 13 minutes as they registered six shots in that time.
Paul Mbuthia looked to regain the lead for RMU in the 44
th minute as his shot was unfortunately blocked in the middle of the box and the two squads went into the break tied 1-1.
In the second half, the Colonials were getting looks as
Kai McLoughlin fired a shot to the top left that was saved by Green Bay keeper Tobias Jahn. Less than a minute later, the Phoenix responded with an opportunity of their own, peppering the bottom corner of the net that was saved by goalkeeper
Kieran Gorgenyi.
Over the next 16 minutes, the two squads traded shots as they combined for six opportunities and four corner kicks. Gorgenyi collected a pair of saves during that spurt. RMU had two chances late to regain the lead as McLoughlin placed a shot in the center that was saved in the 83
rd minute before his opportunity in the 84
th minute sailed high over the crossbar.

On the afternoon, Green Bay fired 14 total shots with five of them coming on goal. Meanwhile, RMU peppered the net with eight total shots while placing five of them on net. The Phoenix registered seven corner kicks to the Colonials two while both goalkeepers collected four saves each.
John Paul Mbuthia recorded his third score of the 2023 campaign which sits tied for second the team.
