Colonials Grind Out Tie at Oakland

Mohrbacher nets seventh goal of the season

Rochester Hills, Mich. – The Robert Morris University women's soccer team ended Thursday's contest with a 1-1 draw at Oakland. RMU is now 9-2-3 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play. Oakland moves to 3-5-5 on the year and 1-1-3 in Horizon League competitions.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
10 minutes into today's game, sophomore midfielder Elisa Corvalan hit the first shot on goal for the day.

The Golden Grizzlies followed up RMU's chance with an opportunity of their own about 20 seconds after Corvalan's shot, being saved by graduate goalkeeper Brenna Murray.

Play continued mainly through the middle of the park, as neither side racked up several shots or were fouling repeatedly.

Sophomore's Renae Mohrbacher and Malia Kearns both recorded shots on goal in the half as well.

After making two saves in the first 17 minutes of the game, Murray didn't face another shot for the remainder of the half, as the Colonials blocked Oakland's offense from playing in any dangerous areas.

In conclusion, the first half ended in a 0-0 tie.

Moving onto the second half, Mohrbacher broke open the scoring in the 53rd minute. At the top of the 18-yard box, on the right side, she cut inside and bent a shot into the top-left corner on the far post, giving RMU the 1-0 lead.

Going the other way, Oakland was caught offside twice in transition. Finally, in the 74th minute, the Golden Grizzlies capitalized on a chance as Frankie Mudd scored her third goal of the season.

Across the last 16 minutes, the home side earned three corner kicks and pelted two more shots. Murray had to make one stop, as she helped preserve the tie, and RMU walked away with a 1-1 result in Michigan.
