Colonials Tie Seawolves in Game Two of Series

Ganie and Gulash score in shootout victory

Moon Township, Pa. - The RMU men's hockey team picked up the extra point by winning the shootout after a 2-2 tie in Alaska. RMU is now 2-4-3 overall in the season and Alaska Anchorage is now 5-6-1.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
It didn't take long for the Colonials to get on the board for the second night in Alaska.

Keeping the puck in the offensive zone, forward Logan Ganie provided pressure up the left side of the boards. No shot is a bad shot as he threw the puck on net, trickling in past the Seawolves goalie to give the Colonials a lead, 1-0.

After taking the lead a little over a minute into the game, RMU extended that about six minutes later as they earned their first power play of the night.

With seconds left before even strength, Tanner Klimpke found Dallas Tulik in the slot, ripping a shot into the top right corner.

Continuing on through the opening period, the Colonials killed off the Seawolves first power play but went down shorthanded again near the end of the first 20 minutes, as Alaska Anchorage scored making it a 2-1 game.

Moving into the second period, neither program scored although there were numerous penalties across those 20 minutes.

For the final period, the Seawolves tied up the game two minutes in and would go on to force overtime.

Throughout the five minutes of 3 on 3 OT, goaltender Chad Veltri made two saves and the Seawolves Jared Whale posted two stops as well.

65 minutes of play would not be enough time as a shootout was needed.

Starting it off, Logan Ganie made a move to his backhand to score in the shootout. Kartner McNarland answered though for UAA.

In the next round, Gavin Gulash pulled off a similar move as Ganie did, scoring on the backhand to give RMU a 2-1 lead.

After his nice finish, the remaining shooters did not score, giving the Colonials the extra point with a shootout victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Freshman Tanner Klimpke recorded his second point of the series with one assist. He currently leads the team in points with seven. Logan Ganie threw in his third goal and sixth point of the campaign. He also scored in the shootout for the second time this season, being a perfect, 2-2. On faceoffs, Gulash won six of nine. Francis Boisvert played the first 20 minutes for RMU, making five saves. Chad Veltri then stepped in for the last 45 minutes, posting 28 saves.
