Opening Faceoff
  • The RMU women's hockey team will host RIT for a two-game series on Friday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, November 18 at 3:00 p.m.
  • This will be the Colonials first game in two weeks as the whole CHA conference was on a bye-week in the previous week.
  • Previously, the Colonials hosted Syracuse and swept the Orange at Clearview Arena. RMU won the first game 4-2 and then followed up with a 3-2 victory.
  • Across the two-game set, five Colonials produced two points. Forward Shailynn Snow and Morgan Giannone each cashed in twice for two goals. And, on the assists, Mya Neugent, Kaitlyn Schooley and Chloé Puddifant each dished out two helpers.
  • In Friday's match, freshman Alaina Giampietro scored for the fifth consecutive game, sniping in her seventh goal of the season. On the year, she's currently sharing the team lead in points with her teammate Morgan Giannone, totaling 13 points.
  • During the second game of the series, freshman Lindsey Smolen recorded her first goal of her career at a vital time for RMU, netting home the game-winning goal in the third period.
  • Freshman Alyssa Rasmuson also registered her first career point, passing out a secondary assist on Smolen's goal.
  • And, sophomore Calli Arnold posted her first career point in game two of the weekend, earning an assist.
  • Sophomore Janelle Evans blocked a team-high six shots in one game for the first matchup of the series. She finished with seven blocks over the Syracuse series and Puddifant blocked six.
  • The graduate defenseman out of Calgary, Alberta also leads Colonial blue liners in points with one goal and six assists in the campaign.

The All-Time Series (RIT) – Dating back to the 2007-08 season, the Colonials are 28-11-3 all-time against the Tigers. The first two meetings happened back in 2007 as RMU won 2-1 and 4-3 to sweep them for the first time. Heading into this weekend, the Colonials have won the last seven meetings and 19 of the past 20 games. Previously, in the 2020-21 season, the Colonials won all three contests in the regular season and then beat RIT, 4-0 in Erie, Pa., in the quarterfinal round. At home, RMU is 15-5-2 and at RIT, the Colonials are 12-5-1. Through 42 total games between the two programs, the Colonials are outscoring the Tigers 137-68, averaging 3.26 goals per game in the series. RMU has also earned eight shutouts against the opposing program.
 
Scouting the Tigers – This past season, the Tigers finished with a 4-26-2 overall record and were 1-13-2 in CHA games. All four of their wins came on home ice. RIT has seen improvement in the current campaign, already passing last year's win total. They're 6-5-2 overall and 2-2-0 in conference. Statistically, Kylie Aquaro leads the way in points (2-8—10). Her eight helpers are the most on the Tigers squad as well. Forwards Jaidan Fahrny and Emma Roland share the team lead in goals with five a piece. Defensively, freshman Emma Pickering owns 34 blocks on the season. Junior defenseman Bailey Kehl holds the team's highest +/- with a +7. Through the young season, RIT has split time between netminders Sophia Bellina and Sarah Coe. Playing close to 500 minutes on the year, Coe holds a 2.58 G.A.A. with 253 total saves and a .923 save percentage. Bellina has featured in seven games with five starts, possessing a 1.60 G.A.A. and .947 save percentage.
 
MILESTONE WATCH
For the upcoming series, Gillian Thompson will reach 100 career games played for the Colonials. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Thompson has appeared in 99 games at RMU, producing four goals, 20 assists and 24 points. She scored one of the most important goals in program history, ripping in the game-winning goal vs. Syracuse (3/6/21) in the CHA final to lead RMU to their third conference championship. She was also a member of the CHA Regular Season Championship squad in 2019.
 
On defense, Chloé Puddifant is closing in on 50 career points. A native of Calgary, Alberta, she's played in 127 career games, posting seven goals, 42 assists and 49 points. In her 12 games with the Colonials, Puddifant has paced for one goal and six assists.
