Moon Township, Pa. – The Colonials went back on the road for a non-conference battle against Bucknell but came up short, 68-54. With the loss, the RMU women's basketball team dropped to 2-4 overall while the Bison improved to 2-4 on the season.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
With the Colonials down 29-19 going into the second half, RMU turned the tables in the third quarter as they shot over 53 percent from the floor. The Colonials outscored the Bison 16-11 in the third frame as freshman guard
Madison O'Dell led the visitors with seven points in the third quarter. Going into the final quarter, RMU was only down by five and gave themselves a chance to come back and win the game.
In the fourth quarter, Bucknell shot the best they had all game as they were led by Emma Theodorsson who scored 16 of her 26 total points in the final frame. The Bison shot over 72 percent in the fourth quarter and missed only three shots as they took control in the final minutes to come out victorious.
STRONG DEFENSE
Throughout the contest, RMU displayed solid defense as they forced the most turnovers (23) and most steals (15) this season.
Alejandra Mastral had a game-high five steals while
Rebecca Dwomoh also had three steals to lead the Colonials in that category.
Naomi Barnwell also did a good job of protecting the rim as she had a game-high four blocks.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Simone Morris and
Madison O'Dell paced the Colonials with 13 points each as O'Dell posted a career-high in points coming off the bench. Mastral hit double digits as she had 11 points along with five steals and three boards. Barnwell had seven points, four rebounds, four blocks, and two steals for the Colonials in another all-around performance.
