Moon Township, Pa. - The RMU men's hockey team fell in game two of the series against ASU, 3-8. The Colonials will head into the holiday break with a 4-13-3 overall record. ASU is now 13-3-4 in the 2023-24 campaign.
1st PERIOD
- RMU started off very strong, scoring the first two goals of the night, both on the power play.
- With 15 seconds left on their first man-up opportunity,
Rylee St. Onge passed the puck over to
Dallas Tulik near the net. Facing pressure from defenders, Tulik snuck a pass back door to
Jackson Reineke, pounding in his fourth goal of the season.
- On their third power-play of the period, St. Onge sniped in a shot to give the home side a 2-0 lead.
- Just before the first period ended, the Sun Devils cashed in with eight seconds left.
2nd PERIOD
- After scoring a late goal, ASU continued the momentum, scoring two quick goals in the first six minutes of the middle frame, both on the power-play.
- RMU quickly responded to tie the game up, 3-3.
Walter Zacher dropped a pass to
Cade Townend at the point. Releasing a shot, the puck took a fortuitous bounce to
George Krotiris, hammering in his third of the season.
- Across the last 10 minutes of the period, the Sun Devils took back the lead, scoring three more goals.
- When the score was 3-5 in favor of the visitors,
Francis Boisvert stepped in net for his third appearance of the campaign.
3rd PERIOD
- The Sun Devils extended their lead, 8-3 with two more goals in the final period.
- RMU almost registered two more scores as
Paul Maust and
Jackson Reineke each hit the post, late in the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Six total players chipped in offensively. Forwards St. Onge, Reineke and Zacher all posted multipoint efforts. For freshmen Reineke and Zacher, this was their second career two-point game. St. Onge recorded his third two-point night in his last four games. In the last four contests, he's produced six points (3-3--6). For the third time this season, the Colonials netted two power-play goals in one game. Defensively,
Michael Craig and
Thomas Haynes each posted a team-high three blocks. Goaltenders
Chad Veltri (29) and
Francis Boisvert (19) combined for 48 saves.

Chad Veltri is currently #1 in saves. He's collected 619 saves in 19 appearances. The next closest behind him, is 57 saves away. Nationally, he's tied sixth in save percentage (.925).
UP NEXT
As the Fall Semester comes to an end, the Colonials will have almost a three-week break in action. RMU will play their 21st and 22nd games of the campaign back at Clearview Arena in the new year, hosting Stonehill in conference play. The first game of the series will be on Friday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m. and the second contest will be the following day at 5:00 p.m.
