RMU’s Comeback Falls Short at Milwaukee, 78-75

MILWAUKEE – Josh Corbin's game-tying 3-pointer did not fall as times expired in Milwaukee's 78-75 victory over RMU on Friday night.
 
Markeese Hastings led the Colonials (4-10, 0-3 HL) with 24 points on 7-10 shooting and a perfect 9-9 from the line. Stephaun Walker had 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Alvaro Folgueiras scored all 12 of his points in a six-minute span in the 2nd half. Corbin finished with 10 points.
 
For Milwaukee (6-7, 1-1 HL) Kentrell Pullian and Erik Pratt combined for 55 points.
 
After falling behind 18-4 at the 11:50 mark of the 1st half, the Colonials chipped away at the lead and cut the deficit to five points twice, the later at 1:53 on a Corbin jumper that made the score 32-27. A pair of Pullian foul shots closed out the 1st half scoring with MKE ahead 34-27.
 
The Panthers would rebuild their lead to 15 points at 14:00 of the 2nd half on Pullian's foul shots. RMU would answer with a 23-9 run which included four 3-pointers from Folgueiras to get within one point at 59-58 with 5:49 left. Down 71-66, Walker's jumper followed by Jackson Last's 3-pointer tied the score at 71-71 with 1:20 remaining. Pratt would sink four straight free throws to put the Panthers ahead 75-71 with 34 seconds remaining.
 
Corbin's game-tying 3-pointer rimmed out, but Walker grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 24 seconds to go. He made both shots to get RMU within two points at 75-73. Pratt made the back half of the 1-and-1 with 19 seconds to play. TJ Wainwright had a chance to tie the contest with four seconds to go, his shot did not fall but Walker got the put-back to make it 76-75. Pullian was fouled and converted both free throws to close out the scoring with three seconds to go.
 
Up next, the Colonials remain on the road to face Green Bay December 31. RMU returns to the UPMC Events Center for the next four games beginning January 4 against IUPUI.
