Columbus, Ohio – The Robert Morris women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-6 decision in their 2023 season opener at Ohio State on Friday afternoon at the Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.
With the loss, the Colonials fall to 0-1 to begin the season. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes start the year 1-0.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Ohio State jumped out to an aggressive start, racing out to a 3-0 lead in the opening 2:45 of action, with two goals coming on free position shots on Friday afternoon. Robert Morris got on the board at the 11:16 mark when senior
Jerica Obee found the back of the net for her first goal of the season to trim the deficit. The Buckeyes wasted no time as they tacked on two more goals in less than a minute to stretch their lead 5-1. After a shot by senior midfielder
Jordan Anderson, Ohio State would take a 10-1 advantage after the opening frame. In the second quarter, senior
Julia Koterwas took a pass from Obee and beat the goalkeeper to trim the lead, 12-2. The Buckeyes added another score before graduate student
Bailey Christianson netted her first goal of the season off a pass from senior
Colleen Tifft.
FIGHTING DEFENSIVELY
Ohio State took a 13-3 lead into the break but Robert Morris continued to fight defensively, giving up only eight total goals after the opening frame. The Colonials surrendered three goals in each the second and third quarter before Ohio State only found the net twice in the fourth quarter. Robert Morris limited the Buckeyes to just 16 shots over the next three quarters after yielding 16 in the first period alone.
SEASON FIRSTS
Five different Colonials found the back of the net, led by
Colleen Tifft who tallied a pair of goals and collected an assist.
Jerica Obee and
Julia Koterwas carded their first goals of the season in the first half as Obee tallied an assist on the afternoon as well.
Bailey Christianson found the back of the net for the Colonials in the second quarter before
Jordan Anderson registered her first goal of the season at the 1:46 mark in the fourth quarter when RMU was down a man.
CAREER FIRSTS
A trio of Colonials captured their career firsts in an RMU uniform. Junior attack
Lilli Hadden registered her first career start against the Buckeyes, while sophomore
Amanda Dolis and freshman
Eliana LaMange saw their first action in the blue and white.

Robert Morris returns to action on Friday, February 17, when it travels to Cincinnati for a non-conference match beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Nippert Stadium.
