Cleveland, Ohio – Playing with a limited lineup, the Robert Morris women's basketball team dropped a 61-43 decision at Cleveland State on Thursday morning at the Wolstein Center in Horizon League action.
With the loss, the Colonials slip to 8-14 this season with a 2-11 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, the conference leading Vikings improve to 20-3 overall behind a 11-2 in league action.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Robert Morris started the contest scoring the opening five points, led by sophomores
Simone Morris and
Phoenix Gedeon. The Colonials would take a 7-3 lead after sophomore
Rebecca Dwomoh converted a layup before the two teams would go two minutes without a bucket.
Cleveland State features the leading scorer in the Horizon League in Destiny Leo who scored 15 straight points for the Vikings, going 5-of-8 from the field to begin the game. The two squads would trade baskets to be tied 17-17 after one. It was a rough second quarter for RMU as they finished 1-of-10 from the field and trailed 34-20 going into the half.
In the second half, Gedeon connected on three consecutive layups for the Colonials, trimming the deficit 38-26. The Vikings would end the quarter on an 11-0 run as they held RMU to 0-of-8 from the field and 0-of-4 from behind the arc. Robert Morris opened the fourth quarter on a 7-3 run, where junior
Mackenzie Amalia drilled a three-pointer and Gedeon recorded four points during the run. After a jumper from Brittni Moore, Cleveland State scored five of the next nine points to extend its lead 59-37. The Colonials ended the contest on a high note, registering a 6-2 run led by Amalia and Morris.

Despite only having seven players active, Robert Morris battled with the top team in the conference. The Colonials held the top offensive team in the league well under its scoring average for the season which was 76.1 points per game. RMU continues its defensive stout from behind the arc, holding the Vikings to just 3-of-18 (16.7 percent) from deep. Cleveland State leads the league in rebounding as the Vikings and Colonials grabbed 45 boards a piece. RMU caused 10 turnovers, five of them coming in the first quarter and scored 20 points in the paint.

For the ninth time this season, forward
Phoenix Gedeon recorded a double-double registering 14 points and 16 boards, five of them coming on the offensive on Thursday. Gedeon scored 12 of her 14 points, while grabbing 10 of her 16 caroms in the second half. Her 16 rebounds are the second highest in her career, where she grabbed 19 rebounds earlier this year (12/2/22). It's the 11
th time this season Gedeon has paced the Colonials in scoring and the 12
th time leading them in rebounds.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Simone Morris finished with nine points and six rebounds, while going three-of-three from the charity stripe.
Rebecca Dwomoh chipped in eight points, two boards, two assists, and a pair of three-pointers.
Mackenzie Amalia boasted seven points and a career-high seven caroms, while collecting two steals and sophomore
Danielle Vuletich carded seven rebounds and three assists in the loss.

Robert Morris continues its road slate when it travels to Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday, Feb. 9, for a Horizon League contest beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Gates Sports Center.
