Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-8 decision to Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium in their home opener in non-conference action.
With the loss, the Colonials slip to 0-3 overall this season. Meanwhile, the Bison improve to 2-2 this year.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Bucknell opened the scoring just over a minute into the game, securing a man-up goal before the Colonials knotted the score just 50 seconds later. Sophomore midfielder
Chelsea Coleman got RMU on the board at the 13:00 mark. The Bison would score five unanswered goals to hold a 6-1 lead after the opening frame. Bucknell stretched its lead 20 seconds into the second quarter before scoring four straight goals to hold an 11-1 lead. Senior
Jerica Obee looked to cut into the Bison lead as her shot was saved by goalkeeper Symone Ryans.
It was a slow start in the second half for both squads as neither team recorded a shot in the opening four minutes. Coleman carded her second goal of the afternoon as she took a pass from senior
Colleen Tifft to trim the Bucknell lead, 11-2. Less than two minutes later, the sophomore midfielder netted the hat trick after securing a pass from graduate student
Bailey Christianson. After a yellow card was issued to Bucknell, sophomore
Maggie Boyle converted the man-up advantage, trimming the deficit, 11-4. Senior
Julia Koterwas was credited with the assist. At the 3:55 mark, Coleman continued her hot streak as she found the back of the net for the third time in the quarter, assisted by Koterwas. The Bison would score three consecutive times to take a 14-5 advantage.
DOUBLE BRACE
Sophomore midfielder
Chelsea Coleman set a career-high with four goals against the Bison on Saturday afternoon. She opened the scoring for the Colonials in the first quarter after netting an unassisted goal at the 13:00 mark. Coleman would go quiet the remainder of the half before erupting for three goals in the third quarter alone. She helped RMU start its spurt of scoring four consecutive times, netting back-to-back goals to trim the Bison lead. The Maryland native capped off her day as she took a pass from Koterwas for her fourth goal of the afternoon. Coleman paces the Colonials with seven goals this season, scoring three last week at Cincinnati.
FIRST TIMERS
Three RMU players carded their firsts against Bucknell on Saturday. Graduate student
Bailey Christianson tallied her first assist of the season in the third quarter at the 9:17 mark. Sophomore midfielder
Maggie Boyle found the back of the net on a man-up situation in the third quarter for her first goal of 2023. Junior Midfielder
Gia Anthony gave a pass to Hadden in the fourth frame to register her first assists for the Colonials this season.
