Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris men's lacrosse team was edged out by the High Point University Panthers, Saturday, losing, 16-14. The Colonials are now 3-2 on the year, and the Panthers are 6-2 overall.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Early on in the first quarter, the home side jumped out to a 2-0 lead. With four minutes remaining, attackers
Liam Keane and
David Burr got the Colonials on the board, and tied the game up 2-2. With an assist on the first goal, fifth-year attackman
Taggart Clark scored the next goal for RMU, but High Point picked up two more goals and ended the quarter ahead, 4-3.
Getting the team tied up again in the second quarter was sophomore
David Burr scoring his second of the game. With back and forth scoring, the score would be even four different times throughout the first 30 minutes of play. Attacker
Nick Pelletier after having a four-goal game to open the season, produced another goal for the Colonials and tied the game up 5-5. High Point, in the fifth minute, got out in front and shot in two more. The final five minutes of the first half showed no more goals, and the Panthers headed into the locker room in the lead 7-5.
Five minutes into the second half, the Panthers jumped out to their biggest lead of the game, 11-7. Head coach
Craig McDonald and his coaching staff decided to take a timeout to reset. The Colonials then clawed their way back scoring three consecutive goals by
Colton Lidstone,
Elliot Holden and
Liam Keane. Heading into the fourth, High Point remained in the lead 12-10.
The Colonials didn't go down with a fight, as they scored three unanswered goals again. This time by their leading goal scorers in
David Burr and
Taggart Clark. Clark scored two to achieve a hat trick, and tied the game, 13-13. In the end, High Point pulled away in the last minute and earned the victory, winning 16-14.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Staying consistent for the Colonials once again was sophomore transfer
David Burr. For the fourth game in a row, Burr has posted three goals or more for the team. Burr now leads the team in goals with 13. The 2022 NLL Draftee
Taggart Clark, recorded his 13
th hat trick of his career, today, against the Panthers. Overall, many Colonials were involved in production, as 12 different players registered a point. In the trenches, fifth-year captain
Owen Down and long-stick midfielder
Johnny Chaisson both scooped up a team-high four ground balls. Down along with
Steven DelleMonache and
Liam Blakely all caused two turnovers. In net, sophomore
Nate Randall played all 60 minutes. With 12 saves, he tied the second-most saves he made in the 2023 campaign.
As a team, RMU only made 11 turnovers compared to High Point's 16. Entering the offensive zone well, the Colonials were 17-for-20 on their clear attempts. Both teams scored one man-up goal, as RMU had three man-up opportunities and High Point had four chances with the man advantage.

Consistently scoring for the Colonials, has been attackmen
David Burr and
Taggart Clark. Burr now leads the team with 13 goals and 17 points. Clark is right behind him with 12 goals and 16 points. Both players hold the three game-winning goals as Burr has two and Clark was given the game-winner once so far this season. The two forwards have recorded 32 shots each.
