Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris women's lacrosse dropped its final non-conference match of the season to No. 8 Notre Dame, 21-6 on Sunday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium.
With the loss, the Colonials snap its three-game winning streak while slipping to 6-8 overall. Meanwhile, the Fighting Irish improve to 11-4 this season.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
One of the top scoring offenses in the country got off to a quick start, netting the first four goals of the opening frame. At the 10:15 mark, RMU got on the board as senior
Julia Koterwas took a feed from
Jenna Irwin and found the back of the net, 4-1. The Irish netted another score before senior
Colleen Tifft found sophomore
Chelsea Coleman to trim into the deficit. In a three-minute span, Notre Dame tallied three consecutive scores to increase its advantage. The Colonials responded with a pair of goals of their own as Irwin found the back of the net for the first time on the afternoon after taking a feed from junior
Lilli Hadden. After a foul on the Irish, senior
Jordan Anderson converted a free-position shot to cut the Notre Dame lead in the first 15 minutes, 8-4. In the second quarter, the Irish looked to pull away as they scored four times while peppering graduate student goalkeeper
Jamie Keller with 12 shots in the quarter. Keller collected five saves in the quarter while carding nine in the first half alone.
In the second half, RMU wouldn't shy away as Koterwas found a cutting
Maggie Boyle who beat goalkeeper Lilly Callahan to trim the Irish lead, 13-5. Notre Dame would find the back of the net with a pair of scores before heading into the final frame. The Irish continued to stretch its lead after netting three consecutive scores to begin the fourth quarter. In the seventh minute, Irwin would cap the scoring for RMU as she responded with her second score after taking a pass from sophomore
Lizzie Paterno.
STREAKY
A handful of Colonials kept their streaks alive against the Fighting Irish.
Chelsea Coleman has extended her scoring streak to 13 straight games while
Lilli Hadden has posted a point in five consecutive contests. With her goal and assist today,
Julia Koterwas has now carded a point in six straight games while collecting an assist in three consecutive matches.
Jenna Irwin continues to produce for RMU as she has netted a score in four straight matches while
Colleen Tifft has registered a point in eight consecutive games.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Irwin paced RMU with three points on the afternoon, recording two scores and an assist. She fired four shots on goal while collecting two ground balls. Koterwas registered a score and an assist while
Jordan Anderson found the back of the net and tallied a team-high three draw controls.
Maggie Boyle netted her second score of the season as Coleman recorded a marker on two total shots. Hadden and Tifft each collected an assist as
Lizzie Paterno carded her first career collegiate point and assist.
Jamie Keller battled between the pipes as she totaled 12 saves on 41 total shots faced. It's the fourth time this season and the 12th time in her career that she's carded double-digit saves. Keller posted a .400 save percentage on the afternoon.
