Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU men's hockey team released its schedule for the 2023-24 season, head coach Derek Schooley and the Atlantic Hockey Association announced today.
"We have put together a very challenging non-conference schedule with some very high level opponents," Schooley stated. "We have a long history of playing highly ranked programs and this year should be no different."
The Colonials are set to play a 37-game slate, including a 26-game Atlantic Hockey conference season that kicks off October 14 at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pa.
The home opener and return of RMU men's hockey is set for October 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Clearview Arena against Bowling Green State University. The Colonials first away game will be the following day at Bowling Green. "We can't wait until October 7th," said Schooley. "It's been a long time coming."
After the first conference game at Mercyhurst, RMU will host a season long five straight home games to end October and enter into November. The first four are conference games against Holy Cross (10/20, 10/21) and Bentley (10/27, 10/28). Derek Schooley and his squad will then play their lone exhibition game of the season against Simon Fraser on November 4.
Continuing through the campaign, the Colonials will go on their longest away trip, flying out to Alaska to take on Anchorage in a non-conference series on November 10 and 11. Before the Christmas break, RMU will play 11 games, nine being against AHA conference members, and a non-conference series hosting Arizona State University on December 16 and 17.
In-between Christmas and the New Year, the Colonials head out to Minnesota for a big non-conference series on December 29 and the 30. To open the 2024 year, Stonehill travels to Moon Township on January 5 and 6. Following those games, RMU gets a bye week on the second weekend of January.
Play will pick back up again on the weekend of the 19 as RMU going down the stretch will face-off against six different AHA opponents, totaling 12 games. The program's last home series will be on February 16 and 17 against Canisius. The home finale against the Golden Griffins will be Senior Day for the Colonials.
RMU's last road trip ends in Colorado Springs, Colo., as the Colonials take on Air Force in one last AHA battle before seeds are determined for the conference playoff tournament.
