RMU To Host Wright State In #HLVB Opener

Can You Dig It?

- The RMU volleyball team begins Horizon League play on Tuesday by hosting the defending conference champions Wright State at the UPMC Events Center for a 6:00 p.m. first serve.

- The Colonials concluded non-conference play at the Mountaineer Invitational in Morgantown, W.Va. last week, facing North Dakota State, Old Dominion, and West Virginia.

- Against the Bison, Emma Brown paced RMU with eight kills and a .313 attacking percentage while collecting a block. She carded an impressive .833 hitting percentage in set one, with five kills and no errors to lead the Colonials. Abby Powers and Natalie Stepanovich each posted six kills while Stepanovich tallied five digs and a service ace.

-  Ashleigh Wallin led the charge with 15 assists and a service ace while Kaitlyn Brown posted 11 assists, one ace, and five digs. Graduate student Allena Carmody paced RMU with 10 digs on Thursday.

- In their second set against the Monarchs, Hillarie Adams led RMU with eight kills while posting a season-best .375 hitting percentage on 16 attempts. She registered six kills alone in the third set and registered an impressive .556 attacking percentage. Rosina Esposito, Abby Powers, and Natalie Stepanovich each tallied six kills while powers collected a season-high three blocks.

- Kaitlyn Brown controlled the offense with 14 assists and six digs while Ashleigh Wallin totaled five assists and five digs. Freshman Katie Cook produced four assists and two digs in just her second collegiate set while Allena Carmody tallied nine digs and two assists.

- RMU would close non-conference action against the host, West Virginia on Friday night. The Colonials were led by a pair of underclassmen as Natalie Stepanovich registered a season-best double-double, with 20 kills and 24 digs. The freshman outside hitter netted nine kills in the opening set and a .471 hitting percentage. Hillarie Adams recorded a career-high 15 kills against the Mountaineers while totaling seven successful swings alone in set two.

- Emma Brown tallied seven kills and a block while Abby Powers totaled four kills and two assists on Friday. Ashleigh Wallin registered 22 assists to pace RMU while collecting seven digs and tying her career-high with five service aces. Katie Cook posted a personal best 17 assists, three kills and two assists while Allena Carmody totaled 12 digs. Macy McNamara registered double-digit digs with 10 while Jaidan Hockman recorded eight digs and one assist in the loss.

- The Colonials end the week with a pair of league road contests, traveling to Cleveland State on Friday, Sept. 22, before heading to Oakland on Saturday, Sept. 23.

The All-Time Series (Wright State) – The Colonials and Raiders will square off for the eighth time Tuesday, with Wright State holding a perfect 7-0 mark against RMU. In the two meetings a season ago, the Raiders claimed a pair of 3-0 victories. In the first meeting in Dayton, Ohio, Ally Christman paced the Colonials with a team-high 12 digs and a service ace while Allena Carmody registered eight digs and two assists. Kaitlyn Brown tallied 16 assists, seven digs, and a pair of kills for RMU. In the second meeting in Moon Township, Abby Ryan led the squad with 12 kills and eight digs while Brown registered 17 assists and 11 digs. Carmody posted a team-high 14 digs and Christman posted eight digs and a kill.

All-Tourney Honors – With the 2023 non-conference portion of the schedule completed, a total of four Colonials took home all-tournament team accolades this fall. In her first season in the blue and white, freshman outside hitter Natalie Stepanovich earned the first honor by being named to the Blue Hen Invitational All-Tournament Team before wrapping up the honors this past weekend by being tabbed to the Mountaineer Invitational All-Tourney Team. Continue To Climb – Multiple Colonials continue to climb the statistical leaderboard heading into Horizon League play. Senior outside hitter Abby Ryan still paces the conference in kills per set (4.07) while sitting second on the team in total kills (122). Freshman outside hitter Natalie Stepanovich ranks eighth in the league in total kills (125) and kills per set (3.13) while ranking third in service aces (18). Junior setter Ashleigh Wallin currently sits second in the Horizon League in service aces (19) and aces per set (0.49) while sitting ninth in assists per set (5.59) and total assists (218). Senior middle blocker Emma Brown paces RMU with a .228 attacking percentage and total blocks (24.0) while totaling 57 kills this season. Graduate student Allena Carmody is tabbed eight in the league in total digs (142) and digs per set (3.55).
