Colonials Fall at Home Against Northern Kentucky

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU volleyball returned home to the UPMC Events Center and fell to Northern Kentucky in four sets.
 
With the loss, the Colonials fall to 7-12, 2-6 HL while the Norse improved to 9-10, 5-3 HL.
 
KEY SET MOMENTS
  • The Norse went to work on offense early on in the first set as they took a 14-8 lead with 10 kills coming off those 14 points. However, the Colonials went on a 7-1 run to tie the set at 15 behind two aces and two kills from Natalie Stepanovich in the run. The Colonials would continue to battle until the Norse went on a 6-2 run to close the set.
  • RMU would look to change the pace in the second set as the home squad had a match-high 15 kills in this set. With the score tied at 15, the Colonials began to pull away scoring four straight points, two of which came off Azra Eric kills. Northern Kentucky tried to come back but critical attack errors along with clutch kills from Hillarie Adams sealed the set for RMU.
  • The Colonials started the third set how the finished the second by jumping out to an early 13-10 lead. Unfortunately for RMU, the Norse offense broke through and went on a 8-0 run to take a five point lead. The Colonials once again battled back to tie the set at 20 but Northern Kentucky would go on to score five out of the next seven points to take the set.
  • The Norse would continue to click on offense going into fourth set as they would end up having a match-high .324 hit percentage in the stanza. Once again like the sets prior this one was close at the midway point with the Colonials trailing 16-15. Northern Kentucky would look to take over the back half of the set going on a 6-2 run that would increase their lead to five. The Norse didn't look back and secured the fourth set to get the match win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Natalie Stepanovich had a standout performance as she compiled a team-high 20 kills and 20 digs. Jocelyn Jourdan reached double digits in kills as she finished the match with 11. Ashleigh Wallin led the team with 27 assists and four service aces.
 
UP NEXT
The Colonials will turn around and face Northern Kentucky in the concluding match tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. The match can be seen streaming live on ESPN+.
