Colonials Tie Titans, Earn Spot in Horizon League Championship

Head Coach Jonathan Potter leads Colonials into playoff berth

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's soccer team secured a 1-1 draw at home against Detroit Mercy, a result that clinches their spot in the Horizon League Championship. RMU now has a record of 7-5-3 overall and 4-2-2 in conference play.
 
FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS
  • The first half was a tight contest with limited chances until the 31st minute when RMU broke through. Anass Hadran cleared the ball to Kosi Udeh, who evaded his defender and scored to put RMU up 1-0.
  • Goalkeeper Josh Lane was called into action with his first save in the 43rd minute, preserving RMU's lead going into halftime.
 
SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS
  • Both teams created more opportunities in the second half, increasing their shot totals.
  • Detroit Mercy players received three yellow cards over a 12-minute period in the second half.
  • With three minutes left in regulation, the Titans found an equalizer to keep their playoff hopes alive.
  • Anass Hadran received a red card in the closing moments, leaving RMU to finish the match with 10 men.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
RMU outshot Detroit Mercy 12-10, with each team posting three shots on goal. The Colonials earned four corner kicks to Detroit Mercy's three, and both teams committed 12 fouls. Fabian Overkamp, Tim Koczulap, and Chase Gilley each played the full 90 minutes, while Josh Lane finished with one save.
 
GOAL STREAK CONTINUES
Kosi Udeh extended his scoring streak to three games, bringing his season tally to four goals and two assists. The Birmingham, Alabama native has accumulated six goals, three assists, and 15 points in his RMU career.
 
PLAYOFF BOUND
The tie secures RMU's place in the 2024 Horizon League Championship, maintaining their hold on second place in the conference standings with 14 points. With one match remaining, the Colonials still have a chance to secure a first-round bye.
