Marvin’s Golden Goal Sends Colonials to #HLWSOC Semifinals

RMU advances with overtime victory; Murray tallies fifth shutout this season

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.Jillian Marvin's golden goal just two minutes into overtime clinched RMU's spot in the #HLWSOC Semifinals for the second year in a row. Goalkeeper Brenna Murray's eight saves helped secure her fifth shutout of the season, as the Colonials moved to 6-6-6 overall.

FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS
  • RMU dominated early, with eight shots and three corner kicks in the first 25 minutes.
  • IU Indy countered with four shots in the latter half, but both teams remained scoreless.

SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Jaguars came out strong, putting five shots on goal, all saved by Murray.
  • IU Indy's Kailyn Smith received a yellow card in the 79th minute, followed by a yellow card for their coach in the 88th minute.
  • With two minutes left, Keilah Muldrow of IU Indy hit the woodwork, almost ending the game.

OVERTIME
  • Early into the first overtime, RMU capitalized on a corner kick from Julia Becerra. Her cross was cleared out, only for Haleigh Finale to send the ball back in, where Marvin headed it past the goalkeeper, sending RMU to the semifinals.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
IU Indy outshot RMU 19-12 with eight shots on goal to RMU's four. RMU earned five corner kicks to IU Indy's three. Marvin, Shauna Gamble, Emerson Johngarlo, Finale, Taylor Day, Becerra, and Paloma Swankler played all 92 minutes. Murray's eight saves marked her sixth game with eight or more saves this season.

IRONWOMAN
Defender Jillian Marvin logged every minute of RMU's season and produced today's decisive goal. With 1,622 minutes, one goal, and three assists this season, Marvin reflected, "This win means so much. Today gives us momentum that we will carry forward."

RICK'S FIRST PLAYOFF WIN
"It was a gritty defensive effort from both teams. There was back and forth action, end to end the entirety of the game with each team having their chances. At the end of the day, we found that extra edge and I couldn't be prouder of the girls."

"This team has been through a lot of challenges such as this program playing their toughest non-conference schedule ever. We've made history, making it to the semifinal in back-to-back years and hosting the quarterfinals so that's something worth celebrating."

"This program is on the rise and we want to be repeating and contending every season and look at this pressure as a privilege. I want the team to feel grateful for this opportunity and leave every game no matter the result satisfied that they made the most of it."
