MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU Softball will continue their 2024 season down in Atlanta, Ga., playing five total games against Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State and UNC-Greensboro. The first set of games in the tournament will be a doubleheader against Georgia State on Friday, February 23 at 2:00 PM. The following day they'll face UNC-Greensboro at 11:00 AM, followed up by a contest at Georgia Tech for 2:00 PM. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, February 25 at 11:00 AM against Kennesaw State.
RMU LATELY
The Colonials return to action after a two-week break as they opened their season at the Terrier Invite in Spartansburg, S.C. RMU finished with a 1-3 record over that weekend. Heading into the next tournament, catcher
Meadow Sacadura is currently the team leader in batting average (.364), hits (4), doubles (2), OPS (1.007), and slugging percentage (.545). Senior
Faith Miller also owns four hits and first-baseman
Avery Winchell possesses the same slugging percentage (.545) and is tied with Sacadura for total bases (6). Also, offensively,
Courtney Poulich owns a team-high 14 at-bats.
At the Terrier Invite, the pitching staff of
Madison DeVault,
Jane Garver,
Kailani Tatro and
Jaimee Hardy each made two appearances. DeVault spent the most time in the circle, throwing 10.2 innings and paced for 11 strikeouts. She also threw one complete game, going eight innings as the Colonials won their first game of the season, 4-3, over George Mason off the bat of
Avery Winchell's walk-off 2-run homer.
LOCAL FLAVOR
13 student-athletes on the roster this season are from the state of Pennsylvania. Several played their prep ball in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) and competed in Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) playoffs.
ALL-TIME VS. GEORGIA STATE
Throughout program history, the Colonials have only played against Georgia State one time, which happened back in 2012. Down in Woodstock, Ga., the opposition won 5-0.
ALL-TIME VS. KENNESAW STATE
In the same tournament that RMU played in back in 2012, the Colonials beat Kennesaw State, 5-4 (8 innings). This was the only time in program history the two sides have met.
ALL-TIME VS. UNC-GREENSBORO
The first meeting happened 24 years ago in March of the year 2000. RMU shut out the opposition, winning 2-0. Later in 2016, the Colonials visited UNC-Greensboro for a doubleheader. The opposition won both games 6-5 and 8-0.
ALL-TIME VS. GEORGIA TECH
This weekend will be the first time the Colonials compete against ACC conference member, Georgia Tech.
