Colonials Bow Out to Tigers in AHA Quarterfinal Round

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT's offense persevered for a second night in a row, advancing to the AHA Semifinal Round after beating RMU, 5-1. RMU finished the 2023-24 campaign with an 11-25-3 overall record. The Tigers are now 24-10-3.
 
1st PERIOD
- Through the first 20 minutes, RIT held the edge in shots, 14-8.
- RMU killed off both of RIT's power play's but the Tigers managed to score two goals in the opening period. 

2nd PERIOD
- Across the middle frame, the Colonials killed off three more penalties to make RIT, 0-5 on the power play.
- RIT managed to score two more goals, gathering a 4-0 lead heading into the final period. 

3rd PERIOD
- A little over halfway in the final period, Tanner Klimpke rushed down the ice on his own creating a chance. After peppering a shot on goal, freshman Walter Zacher took a crack at it. Following up to the net, Klimpke bashed in his second career playoff goal.
- Three minutes later, the Tigers scored one more to secure a 5-1 victory. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Freshman Jackson Reineke led the team in shots on goal with three tonight. Cameron Garvey won 50% of his faceoffs, winning a team-high nine (9-18). Defensively, Mitch Andres tied his career-high in blocked shots with seven for the second consecutive night. The blue liner from Brainerd, Minn., reached 84 blocks this season.  
 
VELTRI'S LEGACY
Starting in goal tonight, graduate goaltender Chad Veltri is now the all-time leader in games played (130) in AHA history. From Fox Chapel, Pa., his 3,611 career saves rank second all-time in the conference. He's also fifth in career wins with 49. Over his postseason career, Veltri's 15 AHA playoff games are tied fourth and his 485 saves are first among active AHA netminders and place second in conference history.
 
SEASON IN REVIEW
In their first season back on the ice under Head Coach Derek Schooley, the Colonials earned their 31st playoff win in program history, defeating Bentley, 4-3 (OT). On the year, freshman Tanner Klimpke produced a team leading 15 goals and 26 points. From Kalamazoo, Mich., graduate Dallas Tulik dished out a team-high 17 assists. Captain Rylee St. Onge finishes his career with 43 goals, 36 assists and 79 points. Cade Townend ends his collegiate career officially ranked third all-time in the Atlantic Hockey conference for games played (165). And, defensemen Luke Johnson and Michael Craig both dressed for all 39 contests in the 2023-24 campaign.
