CHARLESTON, S.C. – The RMU volleyball team opened the Charleston Invitational with a 3-1 loss to Middle Tennessee State on Friday night.
With the loss, the Colonials fall to 3-4 while the Blue Raiders improved to 3-5 on the season.
KEY SET MOMENTS
- The start of the first set didn't go smoothly for the Colonials as the Blue Raiders jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind two kills and an ace. However, Jocelyn Jourdan and Jaaliyah Evans each netted two kills along with several MTSU errors to help tie the set at 15. With the set tied at 20 the Blue Raiders went on a late 5-1 run to take the first set.
- RMU came out swinging aggressively to begin the second stanza as the Colonials jumped out to a 9-4 lead behind three Hillarie Adams kills and four errors from Middle Tennessee State. The Colonials never took their foot off the gas as they had a match-high nine kills in the set along with a .375 kill percentage. RMU also had a match-high three aces in the second to help take the set, 25-21.
- The third set was a complete back and forth battle that continued until late in the set. Jocelyn Jourdan tied the match at 18 with a kill but the Blue Raiders would open up a 7-4 run to secure the set win.
- The Colonials once again were locked into a tight set with the Blue Raiders as the score was tied at 12 at the midway point. Unfortunately for the Colonials, MTSU had a match-high .438 hit percentage in the fourth set and ended up going on a 14-6 run to close out the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Jocelyn Jourdan and
Hillarie Adams each led the Colonials with nine kills while
Tatum Otolski led RMU with three blocks.
Ashleigh Wallin and
Kaitlyn Brown combined for 33 assists while Brown added six digs and three kills.
UP NEXT
The Colonials will close out the Charleston Invitational tomorrow as RMU will take on Utah Tech and Charleston. The first match for RMU will begin at 11 a.m. against Charleston while the last match will start at 5 p.m. against Utah Tech.
