MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's soccer team is back home this week, facing off against Saint Francis on Wednesday, September 4 at 4:00 PM. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with commentary by Spencer Witt and Damen McDermott.
RMU LATELY
RMU (0-1-1, 0-0-0 #HLMSOC) did not see action last week as their game against VMI was canceled due to severe weather. Previously, the Colonials earned a 3-3 draw in their first away match of the season against Mount St. Mary's. RMU showed a strong defensive effort in the first half, conceding just one shot and taking the lead through a penalty kick by
Gabe Norris. However, Mount St. Mary's surged ahead with three goals in the second half, making it 3-1. The Colonials responded with determination, as junior
Anass Hadran provided two assists that sparked a late comeback.
Fabian Overkamp and
William Dodzi Afawubo both netted their first career goals to secure the draw for RMU.
ALL-TIME VS. SAINT FRANCIS
Dating back to 1991, RMU and Saint Francis have faced each other 33 times, with an even all-time record of 15-15-3. The Colonials enjoyed a three-game winning streak against the Red Flash in the mid-90s and a six-game unbeaten streak from 2001 to 2006. At home, RMU holds a favorable 10-4-1 record against SFU. In 2022, RMU edged out Saint Francis 1-0, with
Chase Gilley scoring the lone goal off an assist from his brother
Logan Gilley. Last season, the teams played to a 2-2 draw, with goals from
Kai McLoughlin and
John Paul Mbuthia, and assists from
Anass Hadran,
Logan Gilley, and
William Dodzi Afawubo.
