Big 2nd Half Leads RMU Men’s Basketball Past Green Bay 89-67

GREEN BAY, Wis. – RMU overcame a 17-point 1st half deficit and outscored Green Bay 49-22 in the 2nd half in its 89-67 victory at Green Bay on Friday night. The Colonials improve to 12-7 overall and 4-4 in Horizon League play while the Phoenix drops its 14th straight contest to fall to 2-17 overall and 0-8 in conference play.
 
1st HALF
The 1st half did not start well for RMU, as Green Bay took a commanding 27-10 lead at the 12:15 mark. The Colonials would go on a 15-5 run to cut the deficit to 32-25 at the under-8 media timeout and make it a 1-possession contest at 43-40 after DJ Smith's 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining, capping a 10-2 run.  Ben Tweedy closed out the half with a pair of free throws to make the score 45-40.
 
2nd HALF
RMU scored the first 28 points of the 2nd half and held Green Bay scoreless for the first 10:33 as they built a 23-point lead of 73-50  at 7:28. Their lead would get as high as 25 points inside of the final minute of play.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Amarion Dickerson had a game-high 22 points and recorded his third 20+ point game of the season
  • Kam Woods added 20 points and is 10 points away from 1,000 career
  • Alvaro Folgueiras (13), Ryan Prather Jr. (11) and DJ Smith (10) also had double figure scoring
  • Smith and Woods each had six assists
  • The Colonials had 22 assist on their 29 field goals and scored 18 points off of 17 GB turnovers
  • RMU had its best shooting game of the season converting 52.2% (29-54) of its shots and had a season-best 12 3-pointers
  • The 22-point margin of victory is the second largest this season and biggest over a D-I team
 
UP NEXT
RMU remains in Wisconsin to face Milwaukee on January 19 before heading to Youngstown State on January 22. The Colonials return to the UPMC Events Center for a two-game homestand beginning with Oakland on January 25 and IU Indy on January 30.
