MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's soccer team continues Horizon League action this weekend with a road matchup at Oakland. Kickoff is set for Saturday, October 18 at 4:00 PM, with live coverage available on ESPN+.
RMU LATELY
RMU (4-2-5, 2-0-3 #HLMSOC) is coming off a 1-1 draw against Cleveland State at the North Athletic Complex, where both goals were scored in the closing minutes.
Jack Bejarano netted his third goal of the year, assisted by
Kyler Miller, who recorded his first helper of the season. Goalkeeper
Josh Lane made three saves to preserve the point.
Through 11 matches, freshman
Royie Rahamim leads the Colonials in both goals (4) and points (10). Bejarano ranks second on the squad with nine points on three goals and three assists, while
Anass Hadran and
Jaxson Lee have also tallied three assists apiece. On the back line,
Kevin Gorbell continues to be a workhorse, logging a team-high 965 minutes. In goal, Lane has started every match, earning four wins and four clean sheets.
GAME OF INCHES
The Colonials have been one of the league's most balanced teams this fall, averaging 1.55 goals per game while allowing just 1.09, the second-best margin (+0.46) in the Horizon League. RMU also leads the conference in assists per game (2.09), showing strong link-up play across the attack.
Individually, Rahamim (10) and Bejarano (9) both rank among the top five in the league in total points. Defensively, Lane has anchored the back line, ranking second in the Horizon League in both save percentage (.769) and shutouts (4).
ALL-TIME VS. OAKLAND
Saturday marks the ninth all-time meeting between RMU and Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies hold a 6-1-1 edge in the series, though the Colonials claimed the most meaningful victory last year — a 1-0 win in the Horizon League Championship to capture their first-ever conference title. Senior
Victor Thompson scored the decisive goal in Rochester, Mich.
In the 2023 regular season meeting, Oakland edged RMU 3-2, with
Kosi Udeh and
Anass Hadran contributing to the scoresheet. Hadran later assisted Thompson on the championship-winning goal.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Oakland (1-7-5, 1-2-2 #HLMSOC) enters the weekend following a 1-0 loss at Marshall in its final non-conference outing. The Golden Grizzlies' lone league victory came in a 2-1 result at Green Bay, and despite the record, they've been competitive against ranked opponents, tying No. 12 Dayton (1-1), No. 25 Michigan (2-2), and narrowly falling 1-0 to No. 3 Ohio State.
Offensively, senior forward Tim Allos leads Oakland with five goals and 10 points. Marco Mazzei, Andriy Bilous, Jace Foster, and Jack Klomparens have each contributed two assists. Defensively, senior Malik Sylvester has played a team-high 1,160 minutes, starting all 13 matches. In net, sophomore Cole Thompson has made seven starts, owning a .725 save percentage. As a unit, Oakland averages 1.08 goals per game while conceding 1.62.
