Colonials End Finale at Notre Dame with 2-2 Tie

Cameron Garvey scores lone shootout goal for RMU

South Bend, Ind. – The Colonials men's hockey team posted their first tie of the season as they matched a 2-2 score against Notre Dame. Both teams agreed to a shootout as Cameron Garvey scored the lone shootout goal for either team in the extra period.

FIRST PERIOD
RMU  controlled the offensive tempo in the early going and it showed on the stat sheet with the Colonials outshooting Notre Dame 12-6 in the frame.

The consistency for RMU payed off as George Krotiris fired home his first goal of the year to give the Colonials an early lead. However, the Irish came back just over a minute later to tie the game at one.

SECOND PERIOD
The second period was much more evenly paced, with both teams producing similar results. Notre Dame held a slight 7–6 edge in faceoffs, while RMU generated three more shots on net.

There were no goals in this frame, and scoring chances were limited, with only one power play awarded in the entire period.

THIRD PERIOD
Notre Dame opened the period with strong offensive pressure, capitalizing in the ninth minute to take a 2–1 lead.

However, RMU roared back in the 14th minute, as Trent Wilson found Michael Craig with a perfect feed to tie the game at two.
OVERTIME
Both teams battled through a 3-on-3, five-minute overtime, but neither could find the back of the net despite several quality chances. The game then went to a shootout, where Cameron Garvey was the lone scorer for either side, earning RMU an official tie as they left South Bend.
