RMU Women’s Hockey Drops Series at Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The RMU women's hockey team came up short in the series finale at Bemidji State, falling 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. With the result, the Colonials move to 2-2 to open the 2025-26 campaign.
 
FIRST PERIOD
Just four minutes into the contest, Bemidji State struck first as Hailey Armstrong scored her first of the game to give the Beavers an early lead.
 
RMU responded quickly, leveling the score when Morgan Giannone buried a rebound off an initial shot from Emma Goding at the point. Taylor Storey picked up the secondary assist on the play as the Colonials evened things up at 1-1.
 
SECOND PERIOD
Early in the second frame, Armstrong regained the lead for the Beavers with her second goal of the afternoon.
 
Midway through the period, the Colonials earned a power play and generated several strong chances, firing seven shots on goal during the sequence, but were unable to break through.
 
THIRD PERIOD
Bemidji State extended its lead early in the third when Armstrong completed her hat trick on the power play to make it 3-1.
 
RMU pressed late, pulling the goalie in the closing minutes, but Armstrong capped off her standout performance with an empty-net goal — her fourth of the game — to secure a 4-1 final.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Bemidji State held a slight edge in shots, 31-28. Captain Alaina Giampietro led RMU with six shots on goal.
  • RMU won the faceoff battle for the fourth straight game, taking 32 of 54 draws (59.3%). Alternate captain Catriona Crarer led the way, winning 14 of 22 faceoffs (63.6%).
  • Shayne Desjardins recorded a team-high three blocked shots and continues to lead RMU this season with 10.
  • Goaltender Lucy Phillips finished with 27 saves.
  • RMU went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Bemidji State converted 1-of-4 chances.
 
UP NEXT
The Colonials return home next weekend to open Atlantic Hockey America play, hosting RIT for a two-game series at Clearview Arena. Puck drop is set for Friday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m.
