MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Despite
DeSean Goode's double-double of 18 points and a career-tying 14 rebounds, Robert Morris (10-5, 2-2 HL) fell to Northern Kentucky (10-5, 2-2 HL) 79-77 at the UPMC Events Center on Monday evening. This loss also ended RMU's home winning streak, which dated back to January 12, at 15 games.
1st HALF
RMU jumped out to an early 12-2 lead at the 14:54 mark and would see a 13-point advantage at 17-4 with 13:05 left. With the Colonials leading 22-12 at the midway point of the half, NKU went on a 13-2 run to cut the deficit to one point at 25-24. A 16-3 run capped by two Dan Gherezgher free throws gave the Norse a 43-35 advantage with 1:35 left on the clock. The Colonials scored the last six points of the half to go into halftime trailing by two at 43-41.
2nd HALF
Robert Morris regained the lead, 60-59, on a
Ryan Prather Jr. 3-pointer at the 11:40 mark. However, NKU scored on its next possession and held the Colonials scoreless for the next four minutes. The Norse's largest lead of nine points came at the 5:02 mark after an LJ Wells driving layup made the score 73-64. RMU answered with the next seven points to make it a one-possession contest; at the 3:09 mark, Prather's 3-pointer brought the score to 73-71. The teams traded a pair of field goals, and with 34 seconds remaining, the Colonials' defense forced a turnover. However, on the ensuing possession, RMU threw an errant pass, giving the ball back to NKU. Donovan Oday connected on foul shots with 11 seconds remaining before Goode's jumper closed out the scoring.
HEAD COACH ANDY TOOLE
"When you don't protect your home court in the league, you got to go try and get one on the road, and that's really hard. Every league game we've played so far this year has been decided by three points or less. So what's going to be different on Friday night? And that's what we're trying to convey - the importance of every possession."
UP NEXT
The Colonials start the new year on the road for a pair of games at Detroit Mercy on January 2 and at Oakland on January 4. They return to the UPMC Events Center on Sunday, January 11 against Purdue Fort Wayne.
