RMU Men's Hockey Closes Out Regular Season Against Air Force

Senior Day set for Saturday

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's hockey team wraps up the regular season this weekend with a two-game home series against Air Force at Clearview Arena. The series opener is set for Friday, February 21 at 7:00 PM, followed by the finale on Saturday, February 22, also at 7:00 PM. Prior to Saturday's game, the Colonials will honor their senior class in a special pregame ceremony.
 
Both games will be broadcast live on SportsNet Pittsburgh and FloHockey, with commentary from Tim Benz, Mike Prisuta, and Katie Gaus.
 
RECENT ACTION
RMU (10-18-4, 7-14-3 AHA) is coming off a split in a home-and-home series against Niagara, with both games extending into overtime. The Colonials secured a thrilling 4-3 OT victory on Friday, with captain Mitch Deelstra delivering the game-winner. George Krotiris and Walter Zacher each recorded a goal and an assist, while Greg Japchen tallied his first career multi-point game with two assists. In Saturday's matchup, RMU fell 2-1 in overtime, with Cameron Garvey scoring the team's lone goal.
 
POWER PLAY LEADER
Mitch Deelstra has been a force on special teams, tying for the national lead with nine power-play goals this season. The Wallace, Ontario native has registered 12 goals, five assists, and 17 points, helping RMU rank 14th in the country with 23 power-play goals.
 
MILESTONES & STREAKS
  • Senior defenseman Trevor LeDonne is set to play his 100th career game. The Stoney Creek, Ontario native has recorded four goals, 10 assists, and 14 points in 99 games.
  • Deelstra, Zacher, Trent Wilson, and Dominic Elliott are the only Colonials to have played in all 32 games this season.
 
HISTORY AGAINST AIR FORCE
Since RMU's inaugural season in 2004, the Colonials hold a 17-23-4 all-time record against Air Force, including an 8-8-4 mark at home. Last season, the Falcons swept RMU in Colorado Springs with 5-2 and 2-1 victories. Tanner Klimpke scored twice in the series, while Zacher contributed two assists.
 
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
Air Force (13-19-2, 10-13-1 AHA) enters the weekend as the No. 7 seed in the AHA standings. With at least one point in this series, the Falcons can secure a 6-8 seed and host a first-round playoff game. Senior forward Clayton Cosentino leads the team with 17 assists and 24 points, while junior forward Chris Hedden has a team-high 10 goals, including three on the power play. Hedden also leads the team in blocked shots with 60. In net, senior goaltender Guy Blessing has started all but one game this season, earning 12 wins, three shutouts, and a .904 save percentage.
 
PLAYOFF PICTURE
RMU currently sits in ninth place in the AHA standings with 26 conference points but remains in contention for a 7-8 seed, which would allow them to host a first-round playoff game. The opening round of the 2025 AHA Tournament is set for Saturday, March 1.
