Colonials Drop Road Contest at Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Oh. – RMU women's basketball fell on the road against Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon, 83-53. The Colonials are now 12-15 and hold an 8-10 record in Horizon League play.

FIRST QUARTER
  • RMU struggled mightily from the floor to open the contest as the Colonials didn't score their first points until the 2:12 mark of the quarter. The Vikings opened up a 15-0 lead and went 5-7 from 3P in the quarter.
  • Cleveland State held RMU at bay from the field with the Colonials shooting a game-low 20 percent from the floor in the stanza. RMU went to the second quarter trailing by 15 points.
SECOND QUARTER
  • The Colonials tried to get the offense rolling to start the quarter as Katelyn Chomko drilled a three to try and give the visitors some momentum.
  • However, Cleveland State continued to score at a high-level shooting 66 percent from beyond the arc and scoring 23 points in the frame.
  • RMU tried to work their way back into the game before the break but saw themselves 49-19 at the half.
THIRD QUARTER
  • RMU's defense shined to star the frame as they held the Vikings scoreless for the first seven minutes of the quarter.
  • The Colonials took advantage of their looks in the paint as they outscored Cleveland State 10-2 in the interior. RMU put up 16 points in the frame and would trail the Vikings 68-35 heading to the final frame.
 FOURTH QUARTER
  • RMU had their best shooting percentage of the game in this frame as they shot 46 percent from the floor and went 4-6 from downtown. Katelyn Chomko went on a heater as she nailed three triples in the quarter with two of those coming on back-to-back possessions.
  • Beside the RMU offensive outburst, Cleveland State put up 17 points and would win by a score of 85-53.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Katelyn Chomko came off the bench and scored a season-high 15 points with all five of her field goals coming from beyond the arc. Naomi Barnwell and Danielle Vuletich each had seven points with Barnwell leading RMU with five rebounds.
 
UP NEXT
The Colonials will return home on Wednesday night when they take on Youngstown State at the UPMC Events Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be seen live on ESPN+.
