HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison scored eight runs in the second inning en route to a 10-0 victory on Thursday. With the loss, the Colonials move to 2-1 to start the 2025 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams threatened early, with RMU's
Kaylyn Hopf collecting her 45th career hit in the first inning, but neither side managed to push a run across.
The game turned in the bottom of the second when the Dukes' offense came alive, scoring six runs with just one out, including a two-run homer. Freshman
Sammie Borrayo then entered the circle for her collegiate debut, relieving
Madelyn Coleman. James Madison tacked on two unearned runs to close the inning with an 8-0 advantage.
After a scoreless third, RMU looked to break through offensively.
Katlyn Jardine drew a walk, and pinch-runner
Abby Quickel advanced to third on a wild pitch, but the Colonials couldn't capitalize.
JMU extended its lead in the fourth as Jasmine Hall's single drove in two more runs, making it 10-0. The Colonials were unable to generate any late offense, and the game concluded in five innings.

Hopf recorded RMU's lone hit of the game, while
Courtney Poulich, Jardine, and
