MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU softball team is set to open Horizon League play at home this week with a three-game series against Oakland at the North Athletic Complex. The series begins on Thursday, March 13 at 3:00 PM, followed by a doubleheader on Friday, March 14 starting at 1:00 PM. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Adam Gusky providing commentary.
RMU LATELY
RMU enters the series with a 4-8 overall record after competing in the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tenn. Despite dropping games to Lipscomb and Belmont, the Colonials saw strong performances from key players. Freshman infielder
Mary Brant extended her hit streak to six games and totaled five hits, four RBI, and a home run during the weekend. Senior
Alaina Koutsogiani also contributed with three RBI and her second home run of the season.
Brant currently leads the Colonials in batting average (.417), slugging percentage (.958), OPS (1.398), and triples (2).
Kaylyn Hopf has recorded a team-high 12 hits, while junior
Courtney Poulich has hit four home runs and owns a team-leading .472 on-base percentage. Senior
Anna Resnik leads the team in RBI with 12. In the circle, senior
Madison DeVault has pitched 24 innings, earned two wins, and holds a team-best 4.96 ERA.
MILESTONE WATCH
DeVault is approaching a major career milestone as she enters the series just two strikeouts away from reaching 200. The senior from Dover, Ohio has pitched 236.1 career innings and earned 19 wins. Koutsogiani is also nearing a milestone of her own, having scored 92 runs in 158 career games—just eight shy of reaching the 100-run mark.
ALL-TIME VS. OAKLAND
The Colonials hold a 9-7 edge over Oakland in the all-time series dating back to 2015. Last season, RMU won two out of three games against the Golden Grizzlies. At home, RMU has posted a 4-3 record in the series and averages 3.44 runs per game across the 16 meetings.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Oakland enters the weekend with a 5-11 record and is currently on a four-game losing streak following its appearance at the Ohio State Tournament. Junior outfielder Kamryn Troyer leads the team in batting average at .325, while sophomore outfielder Brooklyn Plitz has recorded a team-high 14 hits and nine runs scored. Senior Madi Herrington leads the Golden Grizzlies with nine RBI and holds a team-best .420 on-base percentage. In the circle, sophomore Alyssa Balcom has pitched 46 innings, earning three wins with a 4.26 ERA. Freshman Kenna Bommarito has thrown 32 strikeouts over 37.1 innings to lead the pitching staff.

Following the weekend series, RMU will remain at home to host Saint Francis in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, March 18. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
