MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU softball team wraps up its seven-game road trip this weekend with a three-game series against IU Indy in Indianapolis, Ind. The series opener is set for Friday, March 28, at 3:00 PM, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, March 29, beginning at 12:00 PM. Live stats will be available for all three contests.
RMU LATELY
RMU (12-9, 5-1 #HLSB) enter the weekend on an eight-game winning streak, their longest since the 2013 season. With a 5-1 record in Horizon League play, RMU currently sits in second place in the conference standings.
In their last outing, the Colonials' offense exploded for a 12-4 victory over Kent State. Junior outfielder
Courtney Poulich led the charge, crushing a three-run homer and driving in six RBI. Leadoff hitter
Kaylyn Hopf was equally impactful, going 3-for-3 with two walks and two RBI. In the circle, sophomore
Kaitlyn Molitoris picked up her third win of the season, tossing five innings without allowing an earned run.
Statistically, Poulich leads the team in batting average (.367), hits (22), home runs (6), runs (19), RBI (24), and on-base percentage (.435). Freshman
Mary Brant paces RMU in OPS (1.259), triples (3), and slugging percentage (.873).
Jess Matheny and
Kaylyn Hopf have each recorded six doubles, with Hopf also tallying a team-high 22 hits.
Defensively,
Anna Resnik has logged 35 putouts with a .960 fielding percentage at second base, while
Alaina Koutsogiani leads the team with 34 assists from third base. In the circle, senior
Madison DeVault continues to anchor the pitching staff, leading RMU in ERA (3.21), complete games (6), and strikeouts (47).
MILESTONE WATCH
- Poulich has already surpassed her RBI total from last season and is just six away from reaching 50 in her career.
- Jess Matheny is two games shy of 150 career appearances. The Connellsville, Pa., native has accumulated 71 hits, 37 runs, and 39 RBI during her four seasons at RMU.
- Koutsogiani is three runs away from 100 career runs scored. Across 167 career games, she has 125 hits and 57 RBI.
ACROSS THE HORIZON
Several Colonials rank among the top performers in the Horizon League:
- Poulich ranks third in batting average (.367), second in slugging percentage (.800), second in OPS (1.235), second in runs (19), first in home runs (6), and second in RBI (24).
- Brant is fourth in batting average (.364), third in doubles (7), second in home runs (5), and first in triples (3).
- Hopf is eighth in batting average (.349) and ranks fourth in runs (16), doubles (6), and stolen bases (4).
- Resnik boasts a .918 OPS (top 10 in the league) and ranks second in runs scored (19) while sitting fourth in RBI (17).
- Koutsogiani is second in the conference in stolen bases (7).
ALL-TIME VS. IU INDY
RMU holds a 13-2 all-time record (.867) against IU Indy, dating back to 1991. The Colonials have won four straight meetings, including a series sweep last season at the North Athletic Complex, securing wins of 10-9, 6-1, and 2-1.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
IU Indy (9-18, 3-3 #HLSB) enters the series in the middle of the pack in the Horizon League standings. The Jaguars recently dropped two of three games against Cleveland State.
Freshman Callie Dickerson leads IU Indy in batting average (.906) and doubles (8), while junior Molly Kable paces the team in runs (20), hits (28), home runs (4), RBI (18), and on-base percentage (.393). In the circle, Dickerson owns the team's lowest ERA (5.79), while Alexa Holman has recorded four wins and 32 strikeouts.
