BUFFALO, N.Y. – The RMU women's lacrosse team fell on the road in non-conference play against Canisius, 15-9.
The Colonials fall to 1-6 to start their season as the Golden Griffins improve to 3-4 in their 2025 campaign.
1st HALF
Both squads came out ready to score as each team combined to have 13 shots on goal with 10 goals in the first frame. Canisius stormed out of the gate with an early 2-0 lead, however the freshmen for RMU took over as
Mia Berthoff and
Vivian LaMange exchanged goals and assists on the next two goals for the Colonials. The score was knotted up at three when the Golden Griffins would score three straight goals to give themselves a 6-3 advantage.
Jenna Irwin closed the quarter on a rocket shot out of the free-position to cut the Canisius lead with 30 seconds remaining.
The second quarter got off to a slow start until the 11:35 mark when
Vivian LaMange capitalized on a woman up opportunity to make it a 6-5 Golden Griffins advantage. The Golden Griffins didn't stop their offensive aggressiveness scoring two straight goals and forcing four RMU turnovers in the frame. The Colonials would go to the break trailing by a score of 9-5.
2ND HALF
RMU wasn't able to get into an offensive groove int his stanza with just four shots on goal and no free-position attempts. The Colonials were held scoreless until the 6:50 mark when
Jenna Irwin found the back of the net for her second tally of the game. RMU would go to the final quarter looking at a seven-point deficit.
The Colonials offensive woes continued into this frame as the visitors were held scoreless for the first 12 minutes of the quarter. Irwin continued her solid performance with two goals in the frame along with
Vivian LaMange finding the back of the net for the second time in the game. The deficit was just too large to overcome as the Colonials fell, 15-9.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Jenna Irwin once again had a standout performance for the Colonials as she had four goals to lead the team and remains one of the league leaders in the MAC.
Vivian LaMange had her best scoring output of her young career with three goals and one assist against the Golden Griffins.
Mia Berthoff had an electric first quarter with two goals and would finish the game by adding an assist.

The Colonials will have over a week off before they return to action and will host Eastern Michigan in the conference opener at Joe Walton Stadium. First draw is scheduled for 12 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
