MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU softball returns to the North Athletic Complex this weekend to open an eight-game homestand, beginning with a three-game Horizon League series against Detroit Mercy. The Colonials and Titans are scheduled to meet Saturday, April 12 at 2:00 PM, followed by a Sunday doubleheader beginning at noon. All three games will stream live on ESPN+ with Adam Gusky and Cam Wickline on the call.
RMU LATELY
The Colonials enter the weekend with a 19-11 overall record and an 11-3 mark in conference play, currently sitting in second place in the Horizon League standings. RMU is coming off a road series win at Youngstown State, taking two of three games in dominant fashion. Both wins ended via the run rule, as the Colonials earned victories of 11-3 and 10-1. Senior pitcher
Madison DeVault picked up the win in both outings, raising her season total to eight victories. At the plate,
Courtney Poulich drove in four runs in the series opener, while
Jess Matheny added three RBI in the finale.
Freshman
Mary Brant continues to pace the team with a .400 batting average. She shares the team lead in home runs with Poulich at eight and also tops the roster in slugging percentage (.847) and on-base percentage (.452). Poulich leads in both runs (31) and RBI (39), while leadoff hitter
Kaylyn Hopf has a team-high 35 hits.
Alaina Koutsogiani has been a perfect 12-for-12 on stolen base attempts. In the circle, DeVault owns a 2.78 ERA and has tallied 66 strikeouts.
MILESTONE WATCH
Veteran
Anna Resnik approaches a career milestone as she enters the weekend just three runs shy of 100. Over her 176-game career, she has recorded 135 hits, 64 RBI, 61 walks and three home runs.
ALWAYS RESPOND
One of the defining traits of this year's Colonial squad has been their ability to respond to adversity. In all three instances of a conference loss this season, RMU has followed up with resounding victories—winning the next game in each series by scores of 8-0, 14-3, and 10-1, all via the mercy rule. Altogether, the Colonials have outscored opponents 32-4 immediately following a conference loss.
ALL-TIME VS. DETROIT MERCY
RMU holds a 12-8 all-time series lead against Detroit Mercy, dating back to 1991. The Colonials swept last year's two-game series in Detroit with wins of 8-2 and 4-1. DeVault and
Kaitlyn Molitoris each earned a victory in the circle, while
Jaimee Hardy picked up a save in game two. Hopf and Koutsogiani each drove in two runs during the series.
SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit Mercy enters the weekend with a 7-23 overall record and sits at 4-8 in the Horizon League. The Titans are coming off a series win over Oakland, taking two of three games.
Sophomore infielder Jada Davis leads the team offensively, topping nearly every major category including batting average (.311), hits (28), runs (14), and slugging percentage (.500). Freshman Wendy Ketola holds the team's highest on-base percentage at .365. In the circle, freshman Erin Flynn leads with a 4.49 ERA and three wins, while senior Jordan Kavanagh has also posted three victories and a team-best 38 strikeouts.
