MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU softball team is set to close out its eight-game homestand with its final home series of the regular season, hosting Mercyhurst for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 22. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM, with both games streaming live on ESPN+ featuring commentary from Brandon Rossi.
RMU LATELY
The Colonials (22-14, 14-6 #HLSB) are coming off their sixth conference series win of the season, taking two out of three games against Purdue Fort Wayne.
In Friday's opener, RMU blanked the Mastodons 6-0, powered by home runs from
Jess Matheny and
Courtney Poulich, a two-RBI performance from
Mary Brant, and a complete-game shutout by
Madison DeVault, who struck out 11 and allowed just three hits.
In game two, RMU battled back from a 3-1 deficit to win 6-4. Matheny and
Anna Resnik each drove in a run, while Poulich launched a three-run homer—her second of the day.

OFFICIALLY CLINCHED
RMU has officially clinched a spot in the 2025 Horizon League Championship, marking the fifth consecutive season under head coach
Jexx Varner the Colonials have qualified. With a 14-6 conference mark, RMU currently sits in second place and remains one of just two teams—along with Cleveland State—still in contention to finish first and host the tournament.
CHASING HISTORY
Home runs were a theme over the weekend, with Matheny, Brant, and Poulich all going yard. Poulich's pair of long balls pushed her season total to 10, while Brant followed with her ninth.
As a team, RMU has now hit 37 home runs in 2025, just three shy of the program's single-season record of 40, set in 2008.
MISCELLANEOUS STATS
- Brant leads the team in multi-hit games (10) and had the longest hitting streak of the year (12 games).
- Poulich has recorded 3+ hits in a game four times and owns the most multi-RBI games (11), including eight with 3+ RBI.
- Resnik had the longest on-base streak this season, reaching in 18 consecutive games.

Tuesday marks the first-ever meeting between RMU and Mercyhurst.
